most students wear jeans and a nice top or tshirt. asians may feel out of place here. different types of students dont interact...everyone stays within their own group most cofc students are from southern states. students are politically aware...or they just dont care. money isnt a huge issue at cofc.

Abby

I haven't had any experience with the student body. I've seen election banners and participated in elections this year, however I have never attended a meeting or seen the effects of the student body.

Megan

I feel as though students are politically active and are a good mix of left, right and center. Most CofC students are from in-state but a lot of the out-of-state students come from Ohio, Maryland and New Jersey...and North Carolina too.

Katie

Most students wear casual clothes or what they happened to roll out of bed wearing to class. Most of the C of C students are from somewhere in South Carolina; other than that there a lot of people from New Jersey and a few other random places.

Rachel

CofC students are a diverse group. Because we are a public school a certain percentage has to come from in-state and it is kind of obvious to pick them out due to academic strength. I am from outstate and sometimes get comments made about the out-of-state students but in reality without out-of-state students CofC wouldn't necessarily have a well-rounded reputation.

College of Charleston is a very diverse campus. There are, of course, the southerners, who grew up in Charleston or any other deep south city/town. There are also the Yankees and the foreigners. This college attracts many people from very different backgrounds. Politically speaking, there are many Republicans, yet since this college is attended by people not from the south, there are very many Democrats as well. This is a liberal school and many of the students seem to be swayed liberally.

Lizzie

The diversity at COFC is amazing. I love how there are people from all around the world from all different backgrounds.

Shannon

CofC's student body is a very blended group, and because of this I think it would be hard for anyone to feel out of place here. We have people of all different backgrounds and groups. Students of different groups interact with each other well and on a regular basis. If there were four tables in the dinning hall with four different groups at each I think the groups would be greek life, hippies, northeners, and foreign exchange students. But, I do believe that you would witness kids from each of these tables getting up and mingling with others.

For being a southern school I think we are pretty diverse. We are mainly white, middle to upper class, females. I don't notice any one group not fitting in. I think we are a typical campus. There are different groups that people go to-SGA, major clubs, sport clubs, political clubs, etc. I think a lot of people are active on campus, but not as many as it could be.
