No student would feel out of place at CofC because the variety of our campus organizations are so diverse. If students do happen to feel left out, CofC gives them the opportunity to create their own campus organization. CofC students are from all over the world. It seems like most students are from South Carolina. Students are able to stay politically aware and active because political activists visit our school all the time. Senator John McCain, Senator John Edwards, Senator Barak Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton and much others have visited and made speeches.

The student body is very active and really tries to get students involved. We get weekly emails throughout the semesters letting us know what is going on around campus. Just a few weeks ago CAB (Cougar Activities Board) put together an end of the year party in the Cistern for us with BYOB and the rapper TWISTA!!! It was so much fun and so cool...I got to shake his hand and get a free CD!

Sometimes the student body does not seem very diverse. You see a lot of people who are from very wealthy backgrounds. This does not mean that if you are not from that sort of background that you wouldn't fit in. It just an observation.

Social Student Body issues can for the most part be summed up in one word: Coexist. Awesome student organization that really had an impact on an abundance of the students this past year.
The student body @ CofC is very open and truly unite as one, to the point that no single "type" of person feels out of place. We are all CofC students, no dominant "type" exists here.

There is a group for everyone here. We used to be a very conservative college and are now considered liberal. This leaves us with a diverse set of ideals and groups on campus. There is group or club out there for everyone. Being a minority, I can vouch for the fact that finding yourself and fitting in here are not a problem.

At this campus it is predominantly caucasions, so if you are not use to being around a lot of white people then don't come here! Also if you can't get out of your box don't come here, because College of Charleston strongly supports diversity of color, religion, beliefs, sexuality, and creeds. Most students wear flip flops (this is major!), sweat pants and a t shirt (really laid back). Then we have our southern men and women who wear the floral skirts and pants, men who wear the pants with the palm trees on them. Oh yeah some guys actually wear bow ties. The students here usually have money, because lexus, tahoes, mercedes, sports cars, and other luxury cars are always seen on campus!

From my exprience there is a good mix of students at CofC. There are plenty of greek types to hippie types with any thing in between, and as far as I have seen they all seem to get along for the most part. I am from South Carolina and was surprised by the number of students that are from the northern states, and I have found that most of them seem to come from a wealthy background. I was a little schocked at how many parents were willing to pay thousand dollar rent every month for thier child, but from my experience none of them seemed snobby.

The average CofC student is: south of the mason-dixon line, majors in some sort of science, outgoing, and probably smokes. Don't be fooled by the stereotypes though. There are many other types of people at the College. CofC is about 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} in-state and 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} out-of-state, which is really a great balance.

You see all kinds of people here... majority Caucasian and African American. People are really accepting of each other. In the business classes, there more and more Japanese and Chinese foreign exchange students coming! They really create competition in the classes. I like the diversity among the different areas of the classes and major/minors. It helps with discussion and creates an overall happiness with everyone. I've really enjoyed hearing different opinions, and the only thing that I have found is that there is never a split class (one set believing strictly one thing and the other half another).

Most students tend not to dress up and look nice during the winter due to it being cold and with early classes, most students do not care. Girls usually wear leggings with jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts and UGGS are very popular during the winter. During the fall and spring is when most students tend to wear sundresses or shorts with cute flip flops. Most C of C students are from the South Carolina area. However, there are quite a few from up north.
