I was recruited by Emory and Henry by a coach /recruiter who said they were going D2 , would be
giving scholarships, and he could see me being the backup running
back. It sounds good, but don’t believe anything this school tells
you. It’s a money grab! They recruited me and then I didn’t even
dress out.I had never heard of Emory and Henry-would never have gone
there had they not pursued me.Other players got fed the same line.
Even a starter said he asked himself every day why he ever went there
because the school was so bad. The food is horrible, but on campus
students have to get a food plan. Campus socials-approx 20/people. I
was assigned a house on campus with athletes that was spider infested
w paint peeling everywhere, but it was better than the rundown dorms.
Forget rest- a train comes in front of the campus several times a day
and night. I wouldn’t go back even if I were starting. It was that
bad. Virginia has better colleges.

Emory and Henry is known for being “Emory and Henry High school” for a reason. This is a very expensive private school that does not offer a real college experience for the price. As a student, I wish I had transferred earlier before I was stuck because credits barely transfer from this school. As a whole, the college does not care about their students and does not improve the school for their benefit but improves it for the alumni who donate money. The campus is not a safe environment as several title 9 cases were not handled well and dorms are easily accessible. Living off campus is near to impossible because they have made it a rule that students must be 23 or older to move off campus. Most students do not graduate within four years because it’s recommended students take around 18 credits each semester to stay on track. Food wise the campus has minimal options and you can often see leftovers being used for meals in the cafeteria. Professor wise I have felt like they often play favorites because of the class size. Overall most students who stay to graduate do not enjoy the school but continue their education just because they are so far in credits and are struggling mentally because it is not positive environment. As of the 2018-2019 school year, Emory let go of several professors and faculty but were not very clear with their students as to why. It is a college that can not keep up with others and it is very obvious.

Emory is an amazing school. Everyone here is so nice and helpful. The class sizes are also really good, because they are smaller you are able to connect with other students and the teachers. The teachers all want you to succeed and care about your well being so they will do everything they can to help.

This College is everything to me, my home, where my friends are, where I met the love of my life, where I practice and learn about my passion, and belong to the sports team I enjoy the most. Overall, Emory and Henry College is a very active college for being so small and in the middle of rural South West Virginia. It is like being part of a family, the professors are extremely approachable, the administration is not intimidating and I even get coffee with Dean Jolie Lewis regularly. I am extremely happy with the support of this College and the success I have been able to have from all the resources presented to us and the overall guidance of the staff.

Emory and Henry college is a great institution. Whatever you want to pursue this is a great place to come. Whether you love art, theater, or sports this college has it all. It is very safe and the academics are great. It was a great choice to come to this school.
Emily - 02/20/2019
It is a great school, great people and food. The school hosts a variety of activities for the students, including a art gallery and outdoor adventure. The school also offers a specialty degree made for those who want to work in museum curation, which is not found at many schools. The school works hard to be inclusive and expand the students knowledge.
Mackenzie - 07/21/2018
Emory & Henry college is an extremely open and inviting community. I instantly felt at home when I visited the campus for the first time. The professors and students are always willing to help and the sports teams are improving every year, with the equestrian team having 20 national titles.
Hannah - 07/18/2018
Emory & Henry College is one that feels like home. This college is very academically challenging, but you know that when you leave you will fully be prepared for the next chapter in your life. Emory & Henry College not only prepares you for your career but it also gives you a well rounded personality. Here you get to learn and grow as a person, learn who you are, what you like and dislike, you can even discover your religion and political views. Emory & Henry is so accepting and makes you feel comfortable discovering yourself.

It is a great community and you definitely find your people. The classes can be tough but they really broaden your horizon so to say. Class sizes are small, and that makes it easier for those who don't like big crowds, and gets you more involved! Campus is the most prettiest in the fall, since there are a lot of trees around campus, you see a lot of popping colors.
Hannah - 02/20/2018
Terrible school overall, the only people leaving good reviews are probably staff or the few people involved for in our pathetic excuse for Greek life
Allison - 12/28/2017
Emory is a great place to go to school if you are looking for a tight knit community. Everyone at Emory is super welcoming and excited about campus life. However, the outside activities at Emory don't have much of a variety. The cost to go to school there is quite costly, however, there really is no place like Emory.
Amber - 12/16/2017
The school is perfect for those wanting to attend a small college that focuses on the individual. The campus is a very friendly and welcoming environment for all.
Carter - 06/26/2017
I transferred to Emory & Henry from a university with 31, 000 undergraduates. Almost immediately upon arrival at E&H i knew this was going to be a place where I succeeded. The people here are genuinely concerned with your success. The professors are always open to help and make sure you are succeeding.
Amber - 01/03/2017
I love Emory & Henry! I am so glad that I chose to go here! It provides a great community feel and many educational opportunities. The college may be small, but it is what creates the rural community around it. The opportunities are endless when you go to E&H!
Damon - 11/15/2016
I believe Emory & Henry is a great school! It is small but, it's a school that can keep you on task and on topic . Many of the current students on campus are athletes. If you're not an athlete, then most likely you are here for the arts of the school. People are friendly on campus and are very welcoming to kids that aren't from the area. I believe the professors are more one on one with the students and it is a great academic college. They try to push you and get you to improve in all levels. At the end of the day, I'm glad I chose Emory & Henry.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Emory & Henry College is 69%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I was able to return to high school and speak to my former self, I would advise the inexperienced, naive adolescent before me to straighten up and realize that the future is what truly matters. As a youth I was far more concerned with what party was coming up, or what the outcome of the big game was, then what college I would attend, or the career I would land in. I realize now that this was a severe lack in judgement. I would explain to myself that none of the trivial teenage ideals will matter in the five years to come, and if I am more studious and concentrate on my future, that I will undoubtedly achieve all of the goals that I will one day aspire to. Post high school life is more difficult than any seventeen year old will realize, and I would make sure that the version of myself I was speaking to understood that fact, and took care of business while the opportunity was still available, rather than wasting my effort and delaying my adult self's success.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The location is probably the worst part of the school. Seven miles from Abingdon seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. Also, as a Christian, sometimes the beliefs and values that I have are questioned or thrown out completely. Not that all colleges do not have this, but i feel that this is very influential in how I rate my experience here.
Very strong athletic programs. If you are student athlete than you are getting the best quality in division III atheletics. Also the teachers are very kind and will work with you.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
This school is very diverse and open to many types of people. Someone who is not interested in a small school should not come here because it is a very small school. You really get to know your professors and the people around you. If you are not a sociable person or someone who wants to get lost in the crowd, then this is not the place for you. We are a very diverse school and all types of races, backgrounds and religions are here. It is not an exclusive school, but it is small.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Emory and Henry College is a strong academic school that promotes a student's growth through diversified educational experiences. Not only is it challenging academically, it also provides an arena for learning lifetime skills designed to create a socially aware and contributory participant in our world today. This well-rounded curriculum is backed by a meaningful and strong Christian belief which is apparent in the care and concern each administrator, professor, and student body displays toward all collegiates. Emory and Henry College is a place that will make a difference in a student and in his desire to succeed.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
What makes my school unique is that we're not just a school, but a family. Emory and Henry College only has a little over 1,000 students, so we all know each other on a personal level verses a large university. It makes your learning experience a lot more interesting when you can just walk around the corner in any building and see a familiar face. Not only do you know every student, you know your professors on a personal level. If I have any questions, my professors give me one-on-one help with my work.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about school is in the beginning you feel like you cannot manage your time. You feel swamped with all the work you're doing and you have to get used to the adjustments. Especially if you do a sport, you feel more stressed out.
I think people who thrive in close-knit communties should attend Emory and Henry College. This college is at the size where it is easy to get to know many of the people on campus. Emory and Henry is also an excellent college for people who love the outdoors. The Outdoor Program organizes a variety of trips throughout the year. People that enjoy doing community service and helping others will also fit in well at Emory and Henry College. Serving others is heavily emphasized at this lovely college because it helps promote selflessness and compassion.
The school is best known for the friendly people and how they make you feel at home. The college is very open and friendly to anyone who comes to visit or wants to attend. From the day I stepped foot on campus I have never not been told hello with a smile as I pass someone. It makes students feel welcomed and included in what I like to call home.
