George C. Wallace Community College in Dothan has truly set the stage for my higher education journey, and my experiences through dual enrollment during my junior and senior years have been nothing short of amazing. The instructors at Wallace are exceptional; they strike a perfect balance between treating students with the autonomy expected in college while providing a supportive environment that eases the transition from high school. This approach has given me a real taste of college life, all while having the comfort of a safety net.
The campus itself is ideally located for me. Being able to stay at home eliminates the concerns and expenses associated with dorm life, yet the convenience of a short commute means I can easily attend classes in person. This balance is crucial, as it allows me to focus more on my studies and personal growth without the added stress of moving away. The sense of community and the quality of education I've experienced have solidified my decision to continue my academic career here.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend George C. Wallace Community College to anyone looking for a solid foundation in their academic pursuits. The combination of excellent teaching, a supportive environment, and convenient location makes it an ideal choice for students seeking a quality education close to home. Wallace is a smaller college that allows for closer interactions with teachers and makes it easier for students to learn. The campus is well kept and the staff is friendly and always try’s to help. Wallace has two sport teams who deserve better equipment and opportunities. Their softball team finished 6th in the nation for the spring of 2019 and deserve to have a more up to date facilities.

I am very happy that I have returned to college at George C. Wallace Community College. I am over 40 and with the help of Wallace I am now able, and have the confidence to transfer to a University to earn my Bachelor of Science degree. The instructors are very helpful and the courses are manageable. I took my courses on-line, but the discussions in the class were far better than I would have ever expected. Any time I had a question, or needed additional help, the instructors were always right there to help.

Wallace makes it affordable and accessible for people who work full time to be able to earn a degree. The staff and teachers are always willing to help and take the time to make sure that each student is taken care of. Wallace is a great school that offers a great nursing program.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would stress the importance of making a few friends to become study-buddies with. I came from a homeschool background and was very shy. Others had to go out of their way to meet me. Although it has taken a while, I now have to very good friends in school and we try to get together outside of school too.
I would also make sure that I did more research into the program I was applying for. I ended up a semester behind schedule because I did not get the full details of the application process.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Wallace is a community college tucked quietly in the outskirts of Dothan, Alabama with affordable tutition, small classes, flexible schedules and the opputunity to obtain an associate's degree before heading off to a four year university.
Anyone could attend this school. Those who consider themselves acidemically competitive and those who might have struggled could fit in here. There are challenging classes as well as many resources to help students who need help.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Though I enjoy school, transportation can be frustrating at times. I try to take as many online classes as possible to save on gas. I have also noticed that grading standards usually differ between instructors, but this can be quickly remedied with a little flexibility in adaptation.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Someone who just doesn't care and are going to school because they are made too or just have the money too. It wastes people's time and aggravates teachers. There are those of us that are there for a purpose and that is to get an education and further what we have already been taught, and there are those of us who bust our butts and worry to be able to pay for school. People that just act like it doesn't even matter to them, that they could care less are infuriating, don't need to be there.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Currently, I'm only in community college, so I don't feel that I have that much to brag about. In fact, I try to avoid bragging altogether. If I can get scholarships such as this that will make it possible for me to attend a university in another state or country, I would probably speak highly of its prestige and location. Instructors who put forth extra effort also make a school praise-worthy.
