What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
As parents and students begin the process of searching for a college, they need to ensure that both are on the same page. Attending a college or university can be a very expensive experience. They need to discuss financial limitations, if necessary. They should also consider the distance of the college from home, and how the student will travel back and forth, another financial commitment.
Most importantly, the parents need to allow the student to attend the college where they feel the best connection. Parents may want to plan their child's life in terms of career, school, internships, etc... However, this will doom the student fromthe beginning, unless they are in agreement with the parent and truly share the same vision for their future. A school that was right for the parent 25-30 years ago may not be the same school. Parents need to allow their student to explore life in a way that opens their minds to ideas and challenges for their futures.
Understanding, patience, and an open mind are the best things that both parents and students can have in delaing with each other, and in dealing with the process of college life.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Although the campus isn't very diverse racially, and many people do have money, not all of them are snobby brats like you would think. They care about their education and they're intelligent. I'm happy to say that I haven't met too many snobby kids around.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Just the right size for a college. People know how to party and keep up their grades--The perfect balance of party and work! Bethlehem could be a little better, but people find ways to have fun on campus, and when we do go out it's a fun time. There are a few cute restaurants around, and North Side Bethlehem is great!

What are the academics like at your school?
Work hard, play hard. Lehigh is the definition of that. The libraries will be packed come midterms and finals, and most kids work hard all semester, but they always have time to party. The professors usually know your name, which is really nice. I've had pretty good professors so far, but I did have one who pretty much didn't know how to teach. Luckily, this is a rarity.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about Lehigh is the work hard play hard atmosphere because the school highly encourages social interaction so it eliminates the cutthroat feeling that many schools of similar academic caliber have. The students are friendly and for the most part work to help each other both succeed rather than solely focus on themselves. Lehigh has such a beautiful campus and a relaxed environment mainly because the students know that if they work hard and utilize Lehigh's alumni network, they are likely to receive a job upon graduation. Knowing that eliminates much of the stress.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Lehigh attracts students nationwide with its reputation as one of the best engineering universities in the country. However, just because somebody wants to become an engineer, that doesn't mean that they belong at Lehigh. A Lehigh student needs to be able to live outside of the classroom as well as excel in a classroom setting. With so much time given outside of class, the Lehigh cirriculum caters to students who want to get involved with clubs as well as research. A Lehigh student needs to be able to take advantage of all the opportunities they have on campus.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I can only speak on behalf of myself, and having only been a Lehigh student for a semester, the most frustrating thing about my time here is that everyone is extraordinary. While that is far from a negative thing, it can be incredibly frustrating because everyone excels academically and suddenly a valedictorian is only in the middle of the pack. It can be tough to watch students around you perform so well while you study tirelessly. However, if a student puts in the work, he or she can do just as well, so it isn't too hard to overcome.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Some of the stereotypes of my school is that it is not diverse at all and it is a school run by greek life. Though these stereotypes have some truth to them it is definitely exaggerated. A large population of the students at Lehigh are greek but it really only goes as far as an individual. There are strict rules on greek life on campus and students are always involved in multiple things on campus that are unrelated to their greek status. It is in no way a defining factor here although many students do choose to go greek. Lehigh's diversity is also very small but that's not to say there is none at all. I think Lehigh is just like any other somewhat conservative private institution, the school is really what you make of it and if diversity is what you're looking for, diversity is exactly what you'll find on campus... or it will find you!
