Shelton State Community College is overall a great School to attend. The classes are very small; therefore, your teachers know you by name. There is one big building with all the classes inside it so your professors are typically easy to find if you need help.

Shelton State is a wonderful first step for students to take as they begin their college career. The small class sizes, knowledgeable professors, and accessible campus makes the transition from high school to college easier. By attending a smaller school like Shelton, students are able to understand and become used to how college works before going to a huge university.

I love Shelton State Community College. Its a relaxing environment besides finals week. The college professors are so nice and most have a good sense of humor. I have had a lot of classes there and there was only one professor I didn't enjoy. She didn't let us write anything down so I couldn't remember what we talked about after class. Other than her, the friendly vibes, extracurricular activities, and the creative surroundings make for a perfect learning location.

From the moment I stepped onto Shelton State's campus, I was amazed. It is one of the most beautiful and professional community colleges out there. There is friendly staff and helpful people around every corner. The atmosphere makes each student feel welcome and willing to learn. I have never felt safer or more excited to be apart of such an amazing school/program. Go Bucs!

The atmosphere in Shelton state community college lacks a lot of feeling throughout the whole building. Nothing more than a college that wants only the students money and nothing else. The only real help are the advisers as they actually help with the students to get them into the classes.

I think Shelton State Community College is a great overall school. Especially for students who are entering college. Dorms are not available but there are many student living apartments to choose from that offers shuttles to and fro. Shelton offers many classes to help give you the prerequisites for a four year degree or to help you take up a skill that will give you an advantage in the career of your choice.

There are so many classes offered and a variety of well-known teachers! The teachers really enjoy their subject and you can tell how passionate they are when teaching. There's a variety of times available too, which is the main reason I love SSCC so much! It is super flexible for a full-time worker like me! Class sizes are small, typically around 15-20 in a class, which I feel helps you get more out of your experience. You will learn a lot, be able to ask questions, more apt to make friends, develop a relationship with your professor, etc.

I love Shelton State! The class size is relatively small which makes it an easier environment to learn in. It is a great place to start for someone who is struggling to figure out what your major is supposed to be. When I leave Shelton State I will already have an associates degree.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
There are many things that I wish I knew before. High school is very different from college. The students in college are very much more goal oriented and independent. Attending a college filled with people of various age groups, ethnicities, and educational preferences is a whole new learning experience for me. To have the abiltity to go back in time and tell myself a thing or two would be great. I would say, "College is going to be a great experience. It will sculpt you into the person you wish to become. You will transition into a more caring and responsible person. Transitioning from high school to college will not be the easiest thing you have done. Though the transtion from high school to college will be a bit bumpy, you can get through it. Success from now on is going to take pure dedication from you. You have to study double the time you studied in high school. And you're going to have to make a few sacrifices. Don't let anything or anyone stand in your path of success." These are the same words I would tell my children who may need a little encouragement and guidance.
What kind of person should not attend this school?

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
There isn't anything really frustrating about Shelto State Community College. I am frustrated that I don't have transportation and often have to depend on others to get to school.
My school is well known around the city of Tuscaloosa and surrounding cities. It welcomes people of all ages, background, social status and educational history. The students and faculty are very down-to-earth and helpful. It provides a very useful learning environment. My college provides a unique and comfortable place for everyone to come together to learn. People come from all over to attend my school. It provides a sense of comfort for everyone. It's a place that many people come to appreciate.
Anyone who doen't want to jump right into the "Big University Scene" should start at a small college like mine. It is not hard work but takes participation and willingness to listen and learn. Anyone who wants a good education with teachers that try to connect with you should attend as well. I was very happy with my first year at Shelton State and I believe anyone could be.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Get to know your teachers. They are human and they can be bias, even though they shouldn't be. When you get to know your teachers, they are more likely to help you outside of class and with extra assignments. You are your biggest advocate so make sure you promote yourself well. Teachers pay attention to those who look like they are trying their best.
