I am interested in the university because they have a great medical program, The university is very diverse as well as being in the heart of philadelphia.

Temple University is a wonderful university that is in the heart of Philadephia. Because it is in the heart of a historic, bustling city, it has so much to offer. From museums to sporting events, from historic sites to charming neighborhoods, there is always something to keep you busy and intrigued. Temple gives students such easy access to all of the city has to offer, with a subway station right in the heart of its campus! Not only does Temple have a vibrant urban setting, but its campus is a true college campus. Some urban campuses are just a mix of buildings set within the city streets. Temple University has its own, self-contained campus which keeps students united, safe, and within walking distance of everything they need. For me, what really sets Temple above other schools is The Tyler School of Arts. My dream is to become an architect and Temple is a place where that dream can become a reality. It has an accredited landscape architecture program with wonderful professors and a hands-on learning environment. Even the Tyler School of Arts building is an amazing space to spend time with its high ceilings and huge floor to ceiling windows. Architecture majors often spend long hours working on projects. The Tyler School gives each architecture student their own space, with a drafting table and small locker, where they can store their supplies. This may seem like a small detail but it's one that really makes students feel like they are in a home away from home and seems to bond the students together. In addition to strong academics, Temple University has a vibrant division 1 sports program. I look forward to watching basketball games in their on-campus stadium. Many other colleges I have visited did not have stadiums right on campus. They were a bus ride away. They also have several club sports. I have played soccer all of my life and have been the captain of my varsity team for the past three years. I plan to play club soccer at Temple. Although I have applied to many colleges and universities, Temple is at the top of my list. I'm proud to have been accepted into their Honors College, and had a wonderful experience at their Admitted Students Day last month. Being able to experience the amazing city of Philadelphia, visit the dorms within the college, as well as other school buildings, and meet professors and students, really set Temple apart from the others.

When I applied to college my guidance counselors made sure that I made a list of about nine or ten schools of varying strengths that I potentially could get into. Four would be the schools my safety choices, ones I knew I would get into, then three schools I would be at my current range, and the last three would be reach schools that were of higher stats than mine. Out of my top three schools, was actually Temple University. In high school, academics weren’t the easiest for me, but I strived to complete my senior year with high marks in order to matriculate to a strong college. So when I found out that I was accepted to Temple, it solidified my fresh start to curate a better academic life for the next four years. Growing up in the suburbs, I was curious as to what city life would bring as a college student when I moved, but I instantly fell in love with the campus as historic Philadelphia was its backdrop. As an undergraduate student, I jumped at all the opportunities to register for amazing classes as a Sociology major Temple had to offer, unlike other schools, that nurtured my growth as a student to properly manage and pass my courses. Temple University has an amazing facility and staff that ensure student success by answering questions, and guide your path towards graduation–filled with advising, job opportunities, and resources for career development. This school has such a diverse faculty and student body that helps you to grow and maintain friendships that will extend outside the classroom and the university. Temple is a community within a city that I grew to love and appreciate for cultivating my college experience and what I have come to know as my overall evolution as a human being. Now that is what they mean when Philadelphia stands for brotherly love. Temple is such a great campus that I have experienced that I cannot wait to be a proud alum to tell my future kids how amazing Temple is.

Temple University is unique because its campus is in North Philadelphia, a predominantly poor area. However, you can take the Broad Street Line to Center City and Old City, where history was made. The dining hall food is not the greatest, but the food trucks around campus make up for it. Since it is a big state school, there are a lot of opportunities for clubs, sports, resources, and activities for any major. As a student, you can find your niche and discover opportunities in the city to further your education outside the classroom. Just like in any city, you have to be safe, and safety measures are put into place both on and off campus. You will meet a lot of amazing people at Temple.

Jeremy

I think temple is a great school. It has lots of resources such s as the student health center. Temple also has a very diverse community, and there are always opportunities to meet new people and do new things. I’d say the only negative is the area, being in the middle of north Philadelphia isn’t anyways the safest and you do need to be careful

Olivia

My opinion on Temple University is that it is a very student oriented school. They never fail to take care of their students and staff. I believe this school is also a community based school. They have so many programs and clubs that we can participate in that will in the end benefit Philly's community. Temple University offers help to those who even might not be sure , what they want to be in life. They give those students millions of classes to choose from based on their interest. With the end goal of graduating their students. I truly love this school and desire to be apart of this environment so, that I can make a change to my society as well. Giving students like me space to create our own clubs and businesses is truly a blessing in itself. I know this university can be the start of my future and help me develop into the person I want to be.

It has a great variety of majors, classes, and student-run organization. The school offer many opportunities on Handshake and Owl Connect. The student worker positions are not paid fairly, however. The safety of students is an ongoing issue. Each semester, students are either mugged, injured, have their home broken into, and even shot.

Alanna

I think it is a good school fairly affordable, good class selection for the most part although I have had issues with finding classes I want to take because they dont always run them every semester, but there is a definite issue regarding safety in and around campus. I think a big part of the issue with campus safety is because we are in philly and the campus safety reflects the safety of the city of Philadelphia itself.

Olivia

Temple is a very enjoyable community. Where it is right off Broad Street in Philly and many students with me enjoy the Philly community along with the temple community. It is a large school with much diversity and opportunity for these students. I currently major in business management at the fox School of Business. Where just over one year I have gained a lot of knowledge in the business industry and enjoy most of my classes. The teachers and professors at temple are very helpful and give you the means to succeed and encourage you to apply yourself. This creates a very comfortable environment for the students to be able to talk to their teachers either directly during office hours or through e-mail or zoom. I have also had classes in the other buildings such as art and communications where I enjoyed my classes as well and I'm able to branch off with my other interests. The extracurricular programs such as clubs are also very abundant and, in my experience, very welcoming and full of opportunities. The culture of sports is also very abundant where this last Super Bowl the Philadelphia Eagles were a part of, and it was a big event for not only temple students put everyone in Philadelphia to cheer for their team. There are also many things to do on campus throughout the year such as thrift shops places to eat in areas to hang out with friends. Overall, I really enjoyed the temple community and what it brings to the table it makes you feel very welcome in a part of something.

lucy

My overall opinion of Temple University is quite positive. I am a first/year, second semester freshman student this Spring and have found myself really enjoying the academic support, social scene, and accessibility to food, shops, and the city. While there been issues regarding safety and paying student workers on campus, thousands of students have rallied together to show and demand support for what is morally correct from the school.

Lauryn

Temple University is the school that I have always wanted to go to. I was excited to get there and once I arrived I realized it wasn’t as great as I thought it was. There is a lot of corruption and a lot of the faculty is dealing with other issues outside of the classroom. The professors and staff are often on strike. The people that work in the dining hall and insecurity are some of the meanest people I’ve ever met. The food inside the dining hall is not great and people have found bugs inside of food there before. The area surrounding the school is awful and the students are not protected from the dangers of the environment. There have been several shootings and people have gotten robbed on campus and there has been nothing done about it. Students are getting robbed at gunpoint in their own homes. Sometimes the drug addicts sit on the benches outside of the 1300 dorm building and ask for money. Women on campus get harassed daily. The arts are not promoted as much as they should be. There are obvious understaffing issues with the advising faculty. The campus is open so anybody can walk on. Many students from nearby schools come onto Temple’s campus to fight and harass students. On the bright side, I’ve made a lot of friends, and my professors have all been very helpful. One class I particularly enjoyed was my first-year seminar. I found that class very helpful. There are a lot of different events that students can go out to and enjoy. There are also a lot of clubs that students can join and make connections with people.

Charlie

Horrible dorms- room was consistently 87-89F maintenance refused to fix it 5 times. Mice swarm in back of J&H, no one cared and reported to health dept no change ever. Insane billing and fine practices, even worse than the average. I switched majors 3 times and got decent snapshots of 3 programs and 2 campuses. Main campus is a brutalist pit designed to get blood from stones. Tell them you can’t eat anything to get out of the mandatory meal plan. Tell them you will be living with a relative and skip the mandatory year in dorms. Do not trust the bursar- they will rob your financial aid and merit ASAP. All they want from you is cash and at every step all systems and administrators are there to minimize and gaslight you and your problems. The head of the honors program threatened to “destroy my academic career” and blew up at me for asking for their help twice in 6 months. This school has some incredible professors (1/10) but the casual cruelty of their bosses and administrators makes getting an education here a brutal lesson in the dispassionate barbarity of big institutions. Need a health check or therapy? Fill out 10 forms for 15 minutes to have someone tell you to come back next time. Don’t try to work and take fewer classes than you think you can handle. Temple constantly re-rigs the credit system so virtually all students will take 6 years to graduate without tons of crunch time. They want you to take a decade to matriculate: you will meet “super-seniors” who have been at temple for a decade or more taking a few credits a semester. My real advice if you ended up here? Transfer. For the love of god transfer out. The whole place is cursed. The land the school is built on was stolen using eminent domain and the neighborhoods still hate everyone at temple. Cecil B Moore was once the jazz capital of the US. Now it’s a wasteland of hideous slabs and 10’ fencing. Ambler campus is nicer, but being destroyed from within- it’s not profitable enough so they’ve been shutting down more and more buildings and trying to put all the classes in one spot. The horticulture program is dying. Botany is a joke with ancient equipment and labs. Campus and near will never be safe because the school is an open wound to north philly- which has plenty of those to begin with. You will get zero post graduation support or help with finding work. This schools graduation rate is horrible and they will not help. In fact they will hit you up for money within a year of graduating. They will also delete your student email ASAP, and never tell you they slapped some fines on your acct just as you were leaving. With interest and fees these tiny fines will be thousands of dollars if you need your transcript or a copy of your diploma. Good luck and get out ASAP.

Jazmin

This is a very dynamic and multicultural university. It provides a lot of opportunities to foreign students to learn and get involved in the university life. During your classes, you have the opportunity to take some extracurricular activities, learn more with the help of different groups, and there are some departments to help you with your progress during your time in the university.

Isaac

This school is extremely hard and annoying to get to when u commute 30-40 mins away. I can’t afford on campus housing so I have to commute 40 mins away. Parking is extremely expensive. They don’t give any special parking to commuters at all. Or even transportation options through the school are non existent. Staff is unbelievably rude when answering the phone. On top of that tutoring sessions and academic help is only offered for a certain amount of days. I work and go to school so I can’t attend those certain days. They don’t understand that not every student lives on campus with their parents money to go to school. THE WORST SCHOOL EVER.

Temple University was one of the best schools I personally considered for the simple fact that its' student body is one of the most diverse I've ever seen, and its' campus imitates a small city in itself. When I'm on campus I feel like Temple is a town on its' own instead of a school campus, hence why you can find some of the surrounding area as 'TempleTown' on apps like Google Maps.

  17. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

I'm not sure if there is a stereotype at this school, besides the ones about the art students. Tyler School of Art is probably the most hipster place in the northeast. Everyone's got a style they think is original, which is really just outdated nineties. And the amount of females with nose rings (and some males) is outstanding. Apparently, nose rings with art students is like an acceptable facial tattoo. Since you can turn it up, you can get a "real" job. If you don't want a "real" job, then don't worry about what you put into your face- you work for yourself! Everything people say about the art students is true (me being an art student myself), so beeeeee wary~...

  18. Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

In order: Temple's not as academically respected as some of the other schools in the area, but it's by no means a safety school or anything. Depending on your major, Temple has some world class programs. Though temple claims they have students from all 50 states, the student body is definitely overwhelmingly local. I think something like 75 percent of students live within 30 miles of the school. I'm from New York, and everyone asked me why I came all the way to Philadelphia to go to Temple. More depressingly, Temple students tend not to leave the area once they graduate. It is a commuter school, but only in the sense that there aren't nearly enough dorms. Housing is guaranteed your first two years, but many people leave campus after freshman year. Thankfully Philadelphia is a cheap place to live, and there's a subway stop right on campus. As for safety, it's a mixed bag. Campus itself is completely safe, but wander off campus and you're on your own. North Philly is a rough neighborhood. I wasn't too freaked out, but there are a lot of kids from the suburbs who don't know how to handle it.

  21. Describe a day on campus you'll never forget.

One day on campus that I'll never ever forget was when I met Robin Roberts of Good Morning America. Being a broadcast journalism major, Robin Roberts is one of my idols. She had come to Temple to receive an award in the School of Communications and Theater. I was so starstruck that day, and I don't get starstruck. She might not ever know this, but that day I got a glimpse of everything that I could be if I worked hard. She was funny, down to earth, and charismatic. It was one of those thngs where I needeed to pinch myself because I couldnt believe that I was listening to Robin Roberts speak. Then afterward, I went up to ask her a question, and she shook my hand. Robin Roberts shook my hand! After swearing that I would never wash my right hand again, I thanked her and walked away with the biggest smile I could form. Everyday I use that story as my motivation and I remember that nothing is impossible.
