Describe the students at The University of Texas at Austin.

I know people think UT is very diverse, and it is compared to other major Southern UNiversities, but we still have inequalities in minority acceptance. Most UT students are from major TExas cities like Houston and Dallas. I think a lot of students have diverse interests, as can be seen in West Mall. At UT, there's always someone who cares about something whether it be law, cruelty to animals, social groups, religion, or politics.

Lindsey

I think that UT is a pretty open campus, and most people that go to UT are accepting of all different types of people. I think that between all the different classes that UT offers for different religions and races, it is hard to be too racial here.

Regina

Ut is generally diverse. There is an over representation of Asians. I don't think anyone would feel out of place here. Students typically wear t-shirts and jeans or shorts. A lot of times students wear work-out clothes to class and flip flops. I think human nature pairs us with people who look like ourselves. but there is the opportunity to interact with people unlike ourselves. I would say at least one of the table has people that look all the same while the others have a large range of diversity from gender to ethnicity to style. most UT students are from texas, dallas and houston to be specific. All kind of financial backgrounds exist. However I will say that the more wealthy students tend to migrate towards greek life. Students at UT are definitely to the left. Austin is often known as a spec of blue in a sea of red. There are a lot politically active students involved in immigration rallies and what not. But at the same time just like anywhere else there is a great deal of apathy. Money is definitely a factor. As a liberal arts student we mainly joke about how we won't have money and how engineers get money thrown at them

Abby

I feel that all student groups are welcome at UT. Austin itself is a very friendly city and encompasses a range of people, from the most conservative to the most openly liberal, and has both wealthy and poor inhabitants. Most students wear casual clothes to class, but often students in the business school are required to wear professional attire, so suits and button down shirts are not an uncommon sight. Most UT students are from Texas, either the Houston or Dallas area. There is not really one group that prevails though. The population is so large that there are well established communities for almost any and every identity. Some students talk about how much they'll earn, others how they want to save the world, and still others how much they never want to leave.

Lindsay

I think it is great that there is such a variety of different cultural groups on campus. Unfortunately, I have not taken the opportunity to join one. I think it is easy for any type of student to feel out of place at UT. It can be overwhelming coming into a new college not knowing a lot of people. This is why I feel the importance of getting involved in at least one thing to meet new people and network.

Blake

There are so many people here so no matter what kind of people you like to hang out with, you can find someone at UT.

Albert

The female students have excellent student bodies. :)

Mitchell

UT's student body is dynamic. While, there is a lack of diversity in the sense of the numbers of different ethnicities, there are individuals from all walks of life. I feel like the vast array of different individuals that make up UT's student body has prepared me for the world.

Blake

No students would feel out of place here--the diversity is somewhat varied and everyone just blends in. When it comes to someone out of the norm, it isn't really noticed or cared about. There are many awkward, silly, or different students that that has become normal to an extent. Most students are wealthy, politically aware, and you hear more from the liberals.

Emily

could be more diverse in my opinion, and i wish we all connected more.. but this is college
