I am deeply interested in attending Whitworth University because of its strong commitment to both academic excellence and community engagement, values that align with my personal and professional aspirations. The university's focus on integrating faith and learning in a supportive, inclusive environment is especially appealing to me. As someone who values both intellectual growth and personal development, I believe Whitworth’s Christian framework provides a unique opportunity to explore my faith while pursuing my academic interests.
Whitworth’s emphasis on small class sizes and close student-faculty relationships is something that resonates with me. I thrive in environments where I can engage deeply with professors and peers, ask questions, and receive personalized guidance. The liberal arts education offered at Whitworth encourages critical thinking, creativity, and a holistic approach to learning, all of which are crucial for my intended field of study. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to work in hands-on, real-world settings, which Whitworth integrates into its programs.
Additionally, Whitworth’s strong sense of community and its focus on service and outreach strongly appeal to me. I am excited about participating in campus activities that promote leadership, social justice, and civic engagement. I look forward to joining groups like the Whitworth Leadership Institute or the service trips organized through the university, as these will allow me to contribute to both the campus community and the broader world.
The campus itself, with its beautiful natural surroundings, also adds to my excitement. I love the idea of having a tranquil yet engaging environment where I can both study and unwind. The combination of academic rigor, community spirit, and the opportunity to grow in my faith makes Whitworth University the ideal place for me to pursue my higher education.

Whitworth is a calm and quite campus. It has a lot of green spaces and so many places to relax. The food is great. The class sizes are small and feel very personal, like the professor personally wants to know you and see that you do your best. Whitworth feels cozy and like a safe place to be.

Whitworth is built on a close tight-knit community filled with kindness, there are always staff members and students you can look to for help. Whitworth is building its diverse communities of students and more and more support is being given to students that celebrate diversity, as students have a lot of say in how the campus is run, teachers, classes, and facilities. We are all valued and given voices and no matter what kindness is what we strive for.

Whitworth Campus is beautiful and well maintained. Most of the professors were enjoyable and allowed for the accommodations I required. However, as a private school there was a definite feeling of elitism on campus including from other students. They make a big show of being understanding, but don't always follow through with actions that truly represent that.

Whitworth University is a home to those who attend it. While many come with certain expectations and ideals that are not usually met, Whitworth usually provides what students need to figure out who they actually are. Overall, the students and the professors are very kind and welcoming, and most enjoy engaging in deep, meaningful conversation. Whitworth is small but is continuing to grow and expand.

It's a great school that views its students, not as numbers or names on a roster, but as a family to take care of. The smaller population allows more time for one on one talk with teachers and is still large enough to let you experience different cultures and meet new friends!

Whitworth is an amazing school, they have a main focus of building a community through the inclusion of all students. The campus is beautiful. All staff is there to help, programs are phenomenal, student life thrives, and the food is amazing, considering it is campus food.

Whitworth University has the most caring campus I have ever visited. They instill such a caring attitude in their students. I visited with a finance class and the professor was so amazing and showed me their glass house. It's a live stock market floor that is just like the New York Stock exchange and they learn live and trade and track real money and commodities!

Whitworth is a unique school that exceeded all of my expectations. Everyone is compassionate and cares for you- teachers, RA's, and even other students. People are super friendly and like to talk to you, it isn't too hard to start a conversation with almost anyone. The school does seemed to have strayed a little from it's Christian roots, but there's still a large faith community and something going on almost every night, such as worship, chapel, or Bible study groups. The school's campus is beautiful and always feels safe. Not only are you able to see emergency call boxes from everywhere on campus, but you can call security at any time of the day from your phone (ex if you were out at another building late and wanted them to escort you back to your dorm).

I attended Whitworth for one year after high school. The staff and faulty are amazing, but you pay a price for it. This university is extremely expensive. One year at this institution would've covered almost my entire bachelors at another. Now that I've had to pay student loans back, I can't say it's worth it. I'm actually relieved I decided to go to a public university. Unless your family can help with tuition I would not recommend attending. Furthermore, this is a Christian institution. I'm an atheist student, but thought the premium education would be worth it; it's not. I remember taking a "Bible for Doubters" course (a biblical literature course is required to graduate) and it felt more like an indoctrination than a class. If you're Christian and able to afford it, this may be the best university for you. If you're not, I can't give it a solid recommendation.

Whitworth is a great school for those people who are really here to learn, and make connections with peers and faculty. It is academically challenging at times, but it is always manageable. Though it does have religious affiliations that is not pushed on students, therefore students of all religious or non religious backgrounds are welcome.

Whitworth cultivates community in all of its public spaces (dorms, dining hall, library, coffee shop and the recreation center). I always feel safe and connected to friends and professors. The dorm life is excellent, there are fun activities every night and great RA's that are always around to talk with. Classes are small, so it's easy to stay engaged in class and professors are genuinely excited to be there!

Whitworth University is a great school to attend, whether you're Christian or not! They are accepting and loving of everybody and are willing to talk civilly about anything. If you go here, you'll find a community that is supporting and wants what's best for everybody. There's also plenty of activities to do, both on and off campus. I look forward to going back!

Walking onto the campus at Whitworth you immediately know it is a place you can spend 3 or 4 years of your life. There are amazing relationships built at Whitworth I believe anyone and everyone would enjoy a University like Whitworth.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Do not worry, do not stress. College life is great and easy to make new, long lasting friends. The classes we take are not only meant to educate and prepare us for the outside world, but to allow us to grow more as a person, which is what really matters. Working hard in college is important, but stressing about it ahead of time is not good. Have fun, work hard, and the ending outcome will be whatever we want it to be.
Everything. We have awesome professors that really know what they are teaching and that makes our academics really good and our coaches are amazing so we have really strong top rated sports in the nation! Also our president is wonderful and knows each student by name and is always supporting everything we do!
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I feel like Whitworth is a bubble, and a lot of the kids have not faced reall ife problems. The Christian aspect of the school probably has a lot to do with it. I feel like there is not enough diversity, and i'm not talking strictly about ethnic diversity.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about Whiworth is the food and the recent construction on campus. The food is like any cafeteria food perhaps a little better, but if you tend to be conscientious about what goes into it, you may want to have an alternative place to eat. The construction makes it a little hard to sleep in on days when you have late classes.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known how difficult it would be to be away from my family, friends, and the place I had called home for 18 years. I would have worked harder on appreciating the life I lived back home, and how different--not good, not bad, just different--life would be in Spokane at school.
Anyone that is really serious about pursing a career in radio, television, film, media, or graphic, should attend Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. It is a relly good place to start. Not only do you gain literary knowledge but, you also get hands on experience and learn to work on group projects, which in turns, help you to develop your knowledge and skills in learning how to make an idea work, through team effort. It give you a taste of what working in the industry would be like. The instructors show a true passion for the industry.
We have a very strong Christian emphasis here and it influences factors in to everything we do at Whitworth. Some Christian perspective is discussed in almost every class and although the students do not need to be Christian to attend, all the professors have signed statements of faith and are Christian. Whitworth's moto is "an education of mind and heart" and they truely focus on giving you the tools to create a wonderful future full of success and service to God and humanity.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Whitworth is unique because it is a smaller school. Because it is a smaller school it has a very strong community and you get very personal attention from your teachers. This is very helpful because it continually keeps you focused on the things that are important, your education and your life. This school also has a very strong community of Christian believers, which is very helpful. I believe that it is important to surround yourself with believers and this school provides many oppurtunities to do that. There are also many internships and study abroad programs available at Whitworth University.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I'd say that the stereotype for Whitworth students is that we are very conservative/religious and into academics. I've also heard some students from other schools label us as 'white rich kids' and 'non-partyers'.
Not gonna lie, it's a bit dressier than what I had anticipated. Most students try to look, at very least, like they tried to put something together that matched. Most girls accessorize, even when wearing sweats, but in the 8AM's you'll see students that looked like they rolled out of bed and threw on a sweater.
Probaby the Core classes. Core 150, 250, and 350 are all required for graduation no matter what your major is. They have the largest amount of students with lecture halls averaging 150-200 students in each and then splitting into smaller groups for discussion.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The most popular activities are probably Primetimes. Primetimes are put on every night in each dorm's lounge and feature anything from glow in the dark frisbee and scavenger hunts to Yoga and P90X. Sporting events are pretty big, and parties are usually only off campus...at least the ones that involve illicit substances.
Describe your school to someone who's never heard of it.
Whitworth is the perfect combination of low-key small school feel and larger school activity options. The people are kind, considerate, and friendly (you even get doors held for you everywhere you go), and the overall atmosphere can only be described as coffee shop meets summer camp. The classes are small enough that students go to coffee with their professors, and the profs themselves are incredibly knowledgeable and active in their fields. The campus is beautiful and well kept with trees surrounding the campus and creating what we Whitworthians call the "pinecone curtain" (just don't forget to look into the outside world every once in awhile). Overall, an amazing place with awesome opportunities! :)
