Interestingly enough, I began at the University of Washington amid COVID! The campus was a complete ghost town when I began, however, throughout my degree, I saw the campus bloom into its true form. One could compare it to be most similar to the changing of winter to spring. This is why I feel that I have a highly competent opinion of the school. During rain or shine, I have seen the campus covered with student organizations, providing community interaction and even job opportunities for the student body. I have attended FREE live concerts with one of my favorites being Remi Wolfe. Lastly, as for the dining, there are many diverse options in culture and cuisine both on and off campus. Not only that but there are plenty of places to study, whether it be a cozy little coffee shop or a gorgeous library filled with a rather large selection. As for the educational sphere, I can proudly say that I feel I gained a rather outstanding level of education. The classes were quite intellectually stimulating and I never once left a class feeling as though I was not supported in some way whether that be through office hours, study groups, etc. The University of Washington prides itself on building a strong community and I felt that all of my classes gave me plenty of opportunity to converse and build relationships with my classmates. In addition, I also felt that my classes provided a glimpse into working with the community around us. For example, one of my classes focused on research in public health and allowed me to collect data for an organization that wanted to provide supporting evidence for the Washington state charity care law. This law supports low-income communities by providing them with quality healthcare without the burden of medical debt. Even though I hadn't gained my degree or a job yet, I felt as though I was already making a difference with my newfound knowledge. It is for these reasons that I can say that the University of Washington provides more than just a chance to gain a degree. It sets you up to gain real-life experience in your desired career, deeper relationships with your fellow classmates and peers, and create a long-lasting positive impact on your community. I am proud to be an alumna of such a fine institution! : )

Timofey - 11/01/2024

It is adorable, big, safe, and proactive about active involvement. In particular, the university does regular events weekly, constantly promptly responds to criminal emergencies, and has amazingly gorgeous buildings to study in. Overall, impressive 5 out of 5.

Giftie - 04/26/2024

I think the University of Washington-Seattle Campus is incredibly beautiful. The campus architecture is incredibly constructed from the main buildings, dining areas, and dorming areas. The campus has many places that students can study alone or with friends while enjoying the scenery of the campus and the city of Seattle. Not only this, but the campus is incredibly inclusive and is diverse. There are countless of clubs that people of all different interests and types could join and find community. No matter who you are or what you're interested in, at UW you will find your people and your community. All you need to do is branch out and give people a chance which is great. The education at UW is also impeccable. It is ranked in the top 30 institutions in the United States and has incredible STEM programs like medicine, computer science, engineering, and more. Overall, The University of Washington is an acclaimed institution and I favor their social scene, academics, and physical campus. I am so excited to be attending this University in the fall of 2024, and I can't wait to make countless memories and meet incredible people that I hope to keep in my life for the long run! Go Huskies!

The University of Washington Seattle campus is a gorgeous campus. It is located on a lake with quick and easy access to an extensive biking and walking trail that weaves throughout the entire city, many different neighborhoods, and along multiple water ways. The main health sciences building that is attached to the hospital is greatly outdated but functions for its purpose. The campus is expansive with easy connections and walkability. The course offerings are extensive and networking opportunities are endless. The University of Washington also has many different volunteer opportunities. The husky stadium is right in the heart of the campus for sports lovers. Go huskies! There is a lot of diversity on campus which is refreshing. Overall, The University of Washington Seattle campus is a lovely place to attend school, especially in spring with all of the cherry blossoms!

Mia - 04/09/2024

Before attending University of Washington while living in Seattle, I always referred to the University district as its own city within the city. When I would go into the area to visit a store or something or the sorts, I felt like the space surrounding the university was very much filled with students who were running this chunk of the city. Once I began attending the university for myself, I got a taste of how large the school was through its class sizes. I felt a part of something larger than myself. Being a millennial attending classes with primarily Gen Z peers was very inspiring and eye opening. The school is rich in culture, diversity and a creative spaces for minds and education to grow. Although the school has a large population, the professors felt accessible and available for you as a student on an individual level if you were willing to advocate for yourself. The campus is like no other with its historic buildings and one of a kind cherry blossoms. An overall great experience.

Marin - 03/11/2024

I love the campus and culture.

Minh Allan - 07/07/2023

The University of Washington is a great school for programs like Computer Science and Engineering in particular, especially with recent funding and construction for that given major/school at UW. The Seattle freeze does feel like a relevant issue, as it can be pretty hard to meet new people and create deeper relationships, especially with a busy academic course-load. People don't feel as friendly as a result.

Priscille - 03/14/2021

I think the University of Washington is a great school to push yourself in you academics and career while meeting a complex group of people. It encourages students to explore on how they can further their education while also encouraging meeting others. They want you to create a network with others that you are prepared for the working world. I feel like because it is in a big city like Seattle, it is not always safe but there are many resources on safety and how to protect yourself. The food is good most days and there is typically a variety to choose from. There academics is hard and really wants to push students to do their very best. Overall, I recommend as they have amazing STEM programs to choose from.

Danele Kristin - 03/07/2021

It can get overwhelming with the class sizes and the sprawling beautiful campus. Depending on the track you\'re on (or hoping for), it can get painfully competitive. Business, Comp Sci, Eng, Med, Math, many STEM courses are like that. But it\'s because they\'re great programs with incredible opportunities, partnered with a great location for internships and the like in Seattle. It\'s definitely not for everyone, and not everyone can be their best in this kind of environment. But there are ways to make it manageable. Clubs and work help you find your community. If you look for help from your classmates or the faculty, you\'ll most likely find what you need. Also, explore the majors outside the big ones. There are some amazing faculty members in this school, and I\'ve found them to be the most supportive of their students because they genuinely want to inspire you. The French Department and the Built Environments Department are a couple of good ones. Of course, there are good classes and bad ones, so do your research and plan out your registration.

Kyla - 08/31/2020

UW is a very diverse and forward-looking school that values inclusion, progression, and action in the face of some of the world's greatest issues–from healthcare to climate change. The large institution is represented by not only its beautiful environmental backdrop, but also by the enormous amount of extracurricular opportunities, resources, and courses offered. The culture is both one of anonymity and individualism as much as it is of community and togetherness. However, while the possibility UW holds is empowering, it is also overwhelming, sometimes bordering on excessive. The culture can be toxic and competitive in terms of majors–as a seemingly outdated, intense major application process is still used to maintain strict capacities–and this method of regulating students' futures runs very contrary to the usually open and limitless nature of UW itself. Even so, UW is not just an institution but an experience for students to discover things that might have once seemed impossible.

Rachel - 05/01/2020

As a high school senior who is thinking of going to the University of Washington, I can only say that UW Seattle is amazing. I know multiple people who go here and they would say the same. The environment is really friendly and everyone are always looking forward to making a new friend. The location is also great as there are a variety of places to go to if you want to hang out.

Agata - 04/30/2020

Growing up in Washington, I have learned to become familiar with the University of Washington Campus. Thus far, it has exceeded my expectations, and I am thankful for all of the opportunities that the campus provides. The new North campus housing is a wonderful community with a 10-minute walk to University Village, our local shopping center. The campus itself is consistently being renovated to further provide a wonderful experience for the students. Campus police are readily available at all times, so each student can get to where they need to be knowing that they are safe. I am truly excited to continue to study at the University of Washington for the 2020-2021 academic year, and I am so grateful to call this campus my home!

Tiffany - 04/30/2020

Overall, I believe that the University of Washington-Seattle Campus is a great school. It is located in a great area with city life while also maintaining high scholastic standing. I feel that students are not only able to have fun but also thrive in their academics.

Harper - 04/26/2020

cool

Kory - 04/07/2020

My overall opinion of University of Washington-Seattle Campus is that it is very competitive and great school. There are multiple types of communities one can get involved with that match their interests or ideals, as well as finding life long friends and mentors. The Sport scene is huge here Football and Basketball are all the rage and you can for sure expect a good time. Classes can be overwhelming but the more you advance in a major, the more personal classes become and you will learn a lot regardless of class size. Faculty and facilities are always available and open for students take advantage. UW is a fantastic school where a newcomer can learn a lot about themselves and world around them as well as tailor their college experience to their own liking.

University of Washington-Seattle Campus FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at University of Washington-Seattle Campus?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for University of Washington-Seattle Campus is 45%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would advise my eighteen year old self to take control of stress. Stress can be the spark that lights the fire of motivation. Or, the taunting devil on one’s shoulder. The difference is mentality. One cannot eliminate stress from their life; it is a fact of life. Applying to colleges, keeping up with classes, and being a competitive athlete was a good learning experience. I used stress as a motivator, and I am very happy with the result. I was a Division I athlete at University of Washington my freshman year, and now I focus full time on school and work. I should have been grateful for the opportunity, instead of fretting about possible rejection. Needless to say, I spent the remainder of my senior year stressing about getting into college, even after I sent in my applications. Complete. Waste. Of. Energy. I realize in hindsight that it distracted me from my classes, as well as robbing me from enjoying the fruits of my labor. I don’t have a time machine, so my only option is to implement this advice going forward. Stress can be an undermining force or a source of strength.

  7. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

The most popular student activities that take place at the University of Washington would have to be the football games during the fall and also the Dawg Daze events that happen at the beginning of the academic year. I say this because the football games are huge and it is a chance to come together with friends and also meet new friends and watch the Huskies win some PAC12 football! The Dawg Daze events are awesome and have a variety of activities to do! It is a week long celebration of coming to UW and there is a small carnival with the live Husky Band and also a live band that the university provides for the students. As well as the carnival there are tons of little games to play and also just a chance to get to know all the new Husky faces that are joining the Husky family. There are a tremendous amount of "groups" around the campus, ranging from ethnic groups to just your typical math group. No matter what there really isn't a true "popular" group and there certainly is not a popularity contest that goes on. If you like a group or club, then try it out and join it, if not then move on with your day.

UW, in my opinion, has the most beautiful campus in comparison to other schools I have visited (Stanford, Columbia, UPenn). For in-state students, it has one of the best ratios of cost to quality available in the nation.

  13. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Easily, one of the most frustrating things about my school would have to be the lack of diversity. I came from a high school consisting of mostly minority groups, so something as simple as just sitting in class makes me feel somewhat awkward. It's also hard to relate to other people; I've always felt like not as many people here have the same type of general tolerance that I have learned. I would like to be able to identify with my classmates instead of feeling out of place just because of my ethnicity.

I was a little worried about the class size being large, but honestly the way the courses are structured and all the resources you have available to you makes you forget that you're in a class of 700 other students.
