My college education has gone beyond the classroom. my classes have given me the confidence to search out other opportunities to suppliiment my education, specifically through community service. Because of the organizations I'm involved in I've had a chance to step out of my comfort zone to acheive more than I thought i would.

I have learned from my first year in college that it is very different from high school. I learned how to live on my own and how to depend on myself and not my parents. I think this has helped me to be able to live in the world on my own and to fend for myself. I also have seen many different cultures, which growing up in a small town, I have not been able to experience before. I think this makes me appreciate other cultures and that in the end we all have something to contibute to society.

I truly do like education ,and as a young father growing up, continuing that education was impossible. As the years progressed, and as my children got older, I soon started to at least entertain the idea of going back to school. But one thing or another seemed to get in the way; everything from marital difficulties to problems within my immediate and extended families. And just as I thought things were FINALLY right, my youngest son contracted Leukemia. But before he passed on December 12,2009, he made me promise to go back to school...no matter what. And I am keeping that promise...no matter what. I'm sure there are more prolific essays out there for you all to read, and I apologize for mine not being one of them; but it is the truth. I look forward to hearing from you in one form or another. Thank You for your time.

The most important things I've gained from my experience at Florida State University is a lifelong group of friends, independance, and a real education. In high school I was an A student but truthfully the way I was taught I retained little to no information. During the time I've been at Florida State the professors have challenged me to take my own education to the next level. I've learned that it's my responsibilty to handle my life and the only person accountable for obtaining my goals is myslef. The environment on campus is so relaxed between students and doesn't remind me at all of the heirarchy of students at my former school. The campus always has something to do and there are so many fun palces to go or things to do in close proximity to campus. Tallahasse in my opinion is the ideal college town, maintaining the unique architecture and beauty of an old college but the attitube and essence of a brand new one. Honestly, I can never imagine attending any other institution. My first year has made such impact I will keep the lessons I've learned from it all my life.

Although I am only completing my first year of college this May, I have gained many valuable lessons. I have been opened up to an entirely different world and have learned to take everything one step at a time. I feel that through my first year I have taught myself a great deal of responsibility that I have been able to apply in both academics and my personal life. I have learned to take things into my own hands, and that if I fail, it is no one's fault but my own. Yet, I have grasped the mindset that failure is not an option. I have realized that if i apply myself properly, anything in this world is within reach. This is especially true if one attends college. Completing a higher level of education supplies students with the tools and opportunities to be successful in this world, it is just up to the student to strive for these chances. In all I can honestly say that attending school this past year has completely changed my mindset towards life. I have been humbled, yet this has supplied me with a sense of confidence that words cannot explain.

The memories and experiences that I have gathered in my freshman year at Florida State University are second to none. My college experience has been everything I dreamed it would be and looked forward to in high school. There is so many ways to get involved on campus at FSU and it is easy to find your niche in the friendly student body. Academically, I could not ask for more with the outstanding professors and interesting courses that challenge me on a daily basis. The sheer thought of playing a small role in the FSU college community gives me goosebumps and a sense of ambition to reach my goals. I could not ask for anything more with my experience at Florida State University thus far and I feel like I am in a position here to continue learning and paving the way for the future.

From attending Florida State University, I have learned how to be independent and how to make my own decisions that are right for my life. I am hopefully going to study abroad summer of 2011 which I wouldnt have done before going away to college. My college experience has helped me choose what path to take for a degree based on my interests. There is a wide variety of majors and tracks so the decision on which path to take is simple. I attended another university for the first two years not knowing what to major in. When I transferred to this university, I was able to try two different majors which made me realized what was best for me. This school has allowed me to learn on my own what is important in academics and in life. It allows a person to be themselves while still demanding focus on academics. I am very proud to say I attend Florida State University because it has changed my life and made me the person I am.

I can confidently say, without a shadow of a doubt, that my college experience has enriched the entire spectrum of my life . I have, through the sheer number and close proximity of so many individuals, truly begun to understand what diversity is. This has helped me appreciate my background, yet also realize that in life, people who have endured so many hardships can wind up at the same place I am in today. It has motivated me to make the best of what life offers. My college has given me opportunites to find a niche within the social complex as well as what I would like to do with the rest of my life. Through the enthusiasm and genuine nature of my professors, I have begun to enjoy and appreciate education as learing rather than memorizing to pass tests, as was the norm in high school. My university has given me a chance to undertake reasearch on the cutting edge of biochemisty and truly begin to make a difference as a part of the real world. My experience so far as an undergraduate has truly opened my eyes to a world I never really had the opportunity to notice before.

My college experience has been about many things like independence, discipline free spirit and balance. I?ve come to understand that I am in control of my own future. I get to make my own choices, right or wrong and learn from my decisions. College is about appreciating a great friend right next door, and appreciating my family far away. The most valuable thing I?ve gained from my college experience has been learning about who I am as a person and who I want to become in the future.
