SUNY Buffalo State stands out as an attractive option for me due to its well-rounded academic programs and vibrant campus life. I'm particularly drawn to the psychology major, which offers a comprehensive curriculum that will help me develop a deep understanding of human behavior and mental processes. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, with opportunities for internships and research, allowing me to apply what I learn in real-world settings and prepare for a future career in counseling or mental health. In addition to academics, I am excited about the volleyball team at Buffalo State. Being a part of a team not only appeals to my passion for sports but also provides a wonderful opportunity to build lasting friendships and enhance my teamwork skills. Playing volleyball at the collegiate level would allow me to stay active and engaged while balancing my academic responsibilities. Furthermore, the vibrant fraternity life on campus adds another layer of attraction to SUNY Buffalo State. Being involved in a fraternity offers unique opportunities for leadership, community service, and social networking. I am eager to connect with like-minded individuals who share my goals and values, and joining a fraternity would enable me to be part of a supportive community that encourages personal growth and development. Overall, the combination of a strong psychology program, an exciting volleyball team, and a lively fraternity scene makes SUNY Buffalo State an appealing choice for my college education. I believe that this environment will not only help me succeed academically but also allow me to grow personally, creating unforgettable memories along the way.

It's a good school but I strongly believe that academic advisors and counselors could pay a lot more attention to their students it seems as though they are very laxative and only interested and only answer questions do you have been asked precisely they don't give suggestions or offer help in the extra mile which is not a very good characteristic of a grief counselor or advisor

It's a wonderful culture and a great affordable option. They take such good care of first-years especially and help everyone else whenever they can. Weigel Health is wonderful and everyone is so nice. I've yet to meet a bad one yet. Not only that, on campus housing is beautiful with a great fitness center and great RAs.

My opinion of SUNY Buffalo State is that this schools gives an opportunity for everyone, regardless of our differences and where many of us grew up, this school shows that everyone is welcomes here at Buffalo and that everyone here is understanding and respectful of each other. The atmosphere is what I mainly care about at campus, and the comfort and wholesomeness of this school really makes me feel as if i’m just at home and I am also pursuing my career while doing so. This school has opened my eyes to new opportunities as well, making me realize that I can be more open to things and that it’s okay to try new things and meet new people.

My experience at Buffalo State has been a short one thus far, but yet a great one. I am currently a Music Education major. The music department at the college is extremely underrated. The class sizes are a great. Not too big but not as small as one on one assistance. The size of theses classes makes it easy for students to grasp on to the information being given. The professors are very helpful and are willing to sit down with you during their office hours to help. The students and the staff from the music department are very welcoming and you can't help but to feel at home with them. Outside of the music department, Buffalo State is still a great school. The only downside is in the summer you're going to need a box fan because none of the dorms are equip with AC's. Overall like in any college its uptown the student if they're there to genuinely learn or if they're there to party and get lost in the whole college scene. My overall experience in Buffalo State so far has been a great one and I'm looking forward to my second semester of college there this upcoming August!

I think that there are issues with favoritism by department, which can leave other departments with less than perfect conditions in the lesser departments.

Nowhere is perfect. There are disadvantages everywhere, especially college campuses. There will always be people who deceive, difficult professors, and financial struggles. Buffalo State is no stranger to any of these, but it is a well connected structure. The small size compared to large universities is quite convenient for those who are in need of academic or personal help. One can get access to a professor outside of classes and remember who they are without too much worry about time. Universities that hold more than 1,000 people would make appointments between students and professors difficult to manage due to the possibility of more than ten students needing to speak and understand the material said professor conducts. Buffalo State is also unified with its community; an incident that occurs on the campus and authorities come right away. Detectives understanding yet still staying true to their careers with no discrimination to the person or people. Anything involving extracurricular or athletics are quick to go around and be supported by fellow peers. The diversity of Buffalo State is extremely strong with all the different cultures from different people around the world, promoting each one as much as possible with sororities and fraternities and events on particular days. Overall, it is a good school to attend if one wishes to be close local and easy access to stores and off campus living. Regardless of the minimal extravagant and not being a top notch university, you get what you pay for. The professors believe in you as a person and as a student and the courses are to bring you a step closer to the outside world.

SUNY Buffalo has given me the opportunity to conduct research in my professional field in order to pursue my passions and possibly change the field of education. Luckily for me as a working professional and parent, my courses can be taken online.

Buffalo State is a great college. The class sizes aren’t too big or too small allowing students to interact with one another and professors as needed. Classes in my major are very enjoyable and while also challenging me. Although I will be transferring to FIT in NYC my senior year, I enjoy every bit of Buffalo state I have experienced and will experience in the future.

SUNY Buffalo State has had a huge impact on my life for the simple fact that they gave me the opportunity to better myself and be apart of their school. It has taught me that you can be yourself and do whatever you want. The professors I've had have been great.

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for SUNY Buffalo State is 64%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

As a high school student from New York City I thought a lot about the decision I was making to go away for college. When I made the decision of going to Buffalo State College, which is eight hours away from the City, I began to think about the different things I would have to get used to. However, I never thought about the real transition of going from a High School in New York City to a college Upstate New York. Knowing what I know now about college and the transition I went through, I would?ve advised myself to never forget that I worked very hard and alone to get to where I am now, that struggles were bound to happen. At First I was overwhelmed because of the noticeable changes I was experiencing, and never thought about the fact that I got myself into this and in the future every little struggle will pay off gratefully.

  3. Describe the students at your school.

Most of my classmates are genuinely nice people. I don't have any issues with anyone I have come across so far. In class, most of the students that I befriend seem focused on succeeding in school and in life. My dorming expericence has been good as well. There are some people that are obviously not disciplined or responsible and I keep my distance from them.

  4. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Buffalo has a lot of diversity, different types of people, surroundings, experiences. Buffalo is a large school, but to me it just means more opportunities and more experiences than a smaller school could offer. The only complaint I have about UB is that our sports teams are less than great, but being a Division 1 school means alot of heavy competition, so it's okay.

  5. What are the academics like at your school?

The sizes of classes vary largely. Most of my classes are rather large, which can be intimidating. However, if you make the effort to utilize office hours and contacting your professor, most of them are willing and appreciative of the contact with students. The education at UB is geared often towards the future, the bigger picture, and a student's opportunities after college.

  10. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to this school, I wish I had known who was the best person to go to for advisement. At the beginning of my college career here at Buffalo State College, I got advised by three different advisors and was told three different kinds of information regarding which classes I need to take, which caused me to take a couple classes I did not need to. I finally figured out that the best person to go to in order to get the most effective advisement was Mrs. Day, the assistant director to the Education Department.

  11. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

I belong to the UB swim team, and therefore I am blessed with about 50 odd people that I am with every day. We do everything together and generally stick together, my teammates are my friends. We do mix with other athletic teams and through AFA I have been able to meet other people. True Blue is starting to break down the athlete-rest-of-the school divide but it's there. The athletes do not like the Greeks point and fact. People party at UB and it depends on who you hang out with the amount that you party. For some people the weekend starts on Thursday night, others never go out. For me if I go out in-season it's only Saturday night, but in the off season we tend to have a little more fun.

The stereotype of the students of SUNY College at Buffalo is that they are very energetic, and outgoing. They like to challenge many goals, not only on an academic level but in social life as well such as making friends even. The school holds many events that is operated and run by, not the school, but the students themselves. It's not only SUNY Buffalo that has jocks, frat kids and stoners; every school has them. I view this not as a deterioration of the school image but builds up the diversity of the people you can meet.

  21. What are your classes like?

I am currently taking MTH 142, MTH 309, AAS 261, and VS 150. VS 150 satisfies the art gen ed requirement and is a very easy class. My professor is fun and in the class we talk about some art, he makes jokes, and we watch films. There are 3 tests which make up your grade. Attendance is extra credit. The tests are 25 multiple choice questions. He uses a bell curve and then pushes it forward towards As. A 36/100 in that class will get you a C-. I got a 72/100 and it's a B+. I always go to class, so I'll get that extra credit. The tests are poorly worded. Some questions are obvious while others are impossible. The curve makes it all OK though. Low stress class. AAS 261 is African American Studies. It satisfies the US history requirement. I go to class, listen to the teacher, take notes, very rarely have homework. The tests are 2 essay questions and the teacher doesn't give out good grades easily. 1/3rd of my class failed the 1st test. MTH 142 is a calculus 2 class for majors and it is basically what you'd imagine it to be. It's a lot of work, but it's doable. I get homework every week and the tests are difficult, but manageable. MTH 309 is a Linear Algebra course. I go to class and learn very little. The textbook teaches me most of what I need to know. For me it is a very difficult class and I have no idea how to read the questions. Once you know what the question is asking it is easy to answer.
