I believe this is one of, if not the, greatest community colleges around! The professors are amazing and very helpful. The food here is amazing and the campus is beautiful. There are always decent sized classes, so there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people all the time!

i am part of the dual enrollment program at Walters state. The teachers are so incredibly nice. They always seem to have time for their students. The campus is beautiful and there is a coffee shop near it that is amazing. The classes are not huge and so teachers can always have one on one time with you.

Walters State has been a great little campus. I would definitely recommend for those who are intimidated to university life, so they are able to build relationships and start networking with some incredible people. There are multiple campuses, the ones I have visited are in Sevierville and Morristown, both are nice and clean. There are opportunities around every corner here and the students encourage you to join in extracurricular activities.

Walters State is a good school with great professors. It is in a small town and what comes in a small town is students with small minds. For example, I am gay and I have experienced discrimination from fellow students. The professors, like I said, are wonderful and willing to work with you on anything. The higher management of the schools seems to lack a lot and there aren't many clubs at the school. There also isn't a lot of variety in classes, which I do understand to a point but it would be cool to have more classes, especially in majors like foreign language.

Walters State Community College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Walters State Community College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Walters State Community College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to go straight to the admission office and enroll in college classes. Please dont put it off and think that you will go to school later because you will not do it. I would tell myself to get good, sound advice from adults " who have been there and done it", especially from the college advisors. A college education would open more doors, opportunites, and advancements in life than a high school diploma would. I would tell myself , by returning to college now late in life, has given me confidence and assurance that I can be anything I want. That there are no hurdles that cannot be jumped if you dedicate yourself . The choices that I had to make in life would have been easier if I had an education at an early age. I would tell myself to do the 3L's. They are Listen, Learn and Live !

  5. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Walters State Community College is an excellent choice! Coming straight from Highschool I often worried about college. If I chose to attend a big College campus where you only saw your teachers on a projector screen. I was relieved that Walters State Community College was very small and the class room size was just perfect for me. From my very first day of college I met some great friends and even very wonderful teachers that really care and want you to do well in your classes and to be successful thought your life.

  6. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I did not have the foresight to apply to multiple colleges. Unforseen changes in my life made it a difficult process to decide which options were the best to take. My simple advise is "Give yourself options". It is better to spend some money on college applications to schools you may not plan on attending, than it is to wish you had before the deadline has passed. This advise would have been the most useful for me had I received it.

  8. What's unique about your campus?

I consider the "best thing" about Walters State to be their accessability. This is the case on many fronts. I am a nontraditional student. I graduated high school in 1985. I am a 43 year old mother of two teenaged children, and recently decided to continue my education. I have been made to feel included and welcomed as a student. The staff go out of their way to assist the students. Many satellite campuses insure that students may achieve their educational goals. In addition, the tuition is affordable for a working mom. My kids might say,"It's all good !".

  12. What kind of person should not attend this school?

Students that didn't enjoy high school shouldn't attend Walter State. In my opinion Walter State is just like high school because it's in a small town where everybody knows each other and you are in college with people you have known sense elementary school and grew up going to the same schools. Walter State has the same rules as high school and I don't feel like I have the freedom I should have in college. It's just isn't the college experience I was expecting, so Im transfering in the fall.

Theatre is pretty popular among the artsy/musical people, and really just anyone looking for entertainment. Along with theatre, Choir is made of a large number of students that can be heard singing all over campus. A group I am in is the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries), It is full of students daily that are just hungry for a strong relationship with God. It provides an amazing atmosphere that no one can resist.

  17. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

The stereotype for students that attend WSCC is that of people that can't really afford to go off to a university. This stereotype is far from the truth. I have encountered many student during my time there that are attending WSCC because they want to get their GPA up before transferring, or they want to start off close to home and then transfer. Many people I have encountered "have money" if you will, but picked an easier path to start on.
