Dillard University is an excellent small college, in my opinion. There is a family atmosphere and the locals are welcoming. Even though there are some drawbacks, including poor food and housing issues, academics and mental health services make up for it. Overall, Dillard is excellent if you're searching for a small, laid-back HBCU.

As a first year freshman attending a HBCU, I can say it's definitely one for the book. The students and staff members are very welcoming and concerning. I came on campus not knowing anyone, now I know everyone. I love the basketball games located in dent, the student body really gives support. Although there are several perks of Dillard, one con is the student health center. The receptionist is quite rude but overall the health care is amazing. There are several groups you can join to get you involved as well as greek life.

Dillard University isn't an overwhelmingly bad school. There's intimacy among students. Professors are involved, reachable, and willing to help, but there's an issue of insincerity during the recruitment of new students. I feel like the university puts on somewhat of a façade for prospective students. The university is advised to prospective students as what most of them expect from the college experience. Recruiters, in the form of Dillard staff and enrolled Dillard students, push the clubs and activities. They don’t lie when pushing these things, but they certainly don’t go into much detail about them. I quickly learned why. There are many clubs, which I initially found very appealing, but I came to find that many of them are duplicates of each other. The only factor that separates them is having different names. This fact is magnified when duplicate clubs sponsor the same event, and there’s no way to distinguish members of one club from members of the other at the event. In addition to the duplicate issue, many of Dillard University’s listed clubs are completely inactive. As for the activities, they begin to feel very repetitive if you participate frequently because the same ones are held on the same day at the same time each week.
Because the root of the problem isn't necessarily the university itself, I believe the solution rests with the students of Dillard University. It’s up to us to advocate for the changes that we want to see and liven up our school. Doing this would allow recruiters to be less vague with prospective students and prevent new students from showing up and being disappointed year after year. I’d begin by removing all of the inactive clubs’ names from Dillard’s list of clubs and merging duplicate clubs under one name. To avoid merging, they’d have to demonstrate how they are fundamentally different from one another. Once the duplicates would be eliminated, the next step would be to have students propose new clubs based on their interests followed by a vote on which ones to form. I believe that this would effectively resolve the issue of insincerity as it relates to clubs and create a more appealing environment on campus for new and old students at Dillard University. Unfortunately, resolving the insincerity issue as it relates to activities isn't as easy. Again, the root of the problem is the students. Oftentimes, newly introduced activities just don’t have good turnouts, and that prevents new things to do around campus from being implemented regularly. To resolve this, organizers need to be more engaging when advertising new events and activities and use more methods of advertisement. If these changes can be mad, Dillard would be a much more genuine institution.

I think Dillard is a great HBCU it’s just a very expensive college. Attending Dillard is the perfect place for an awesome college experience. Attending this HBCU made me feel like I never left home and I live 70+ miles away. Overall Dillard University is doing great in all departments in my opinion.

I believe that Dillard University is a place that you can call home. Once you get there you are considered family just like that and that's a great thing to have especially for the simple fact that we are an HBCU. Dillard University is a place where you can be yourself without being judged.

Dillard overall is a great school, but there is still plenty room for improvement. It is too expensive for some things bot to addressed or fixed. I also feel like some people at this school tend to set the tone for the rest of everyone else and that is not always a good thing. Its not good at all because these people are the type to take advantage of everything and everybody with no true genuine bone in their body. This makes people wonder if they are just as worthy and that’s not a good environment. Some of the buildings need work but they are still comfortable enough to be in just not updated. The food is trying to get better but they still working on it. I love hate Dillard, but I can say it is my home and my alma mater. I don’t want to be anywhere else.

Dillard University is an amazing HBCU. While it has its flaws, it really feels like a family, and the size of the school really promotes the intimacy. I feel as though my opinion would be heard if I wanted to voice it, and there are a plethora of extracurricular activities to partake in that I, myself have enjoyed.

Dillard is a small HBCU that could use some work. It is small so its easy to make friends but easier to get distracted. The professors for the most part are understanding but mostly foreign which means that they are hard to understand. It is not the college life you expect and its not exciting at all.

Dillard is my dream school! I know that's a cliche but it honestly is! The site of the college is beautiful, and it's the perfect size for me. The environment and the people are so friendly. I love the feeling of being welcomed. Although I am a visitor who plans on attending Dillard, I still feel like Dillard is a great school from a visitor standpoint. I cannot wait to attend Dillard University!

Dillard is a family. Every family has its good and bad moments and circumstances but, we never abandon our family aspect. Being a small university, to us, means we must create a huge impact. Dillard is rich in pride and history, and we showcase this to all who will see. The many intellectuals, creatives, and game-changers that have come through Dillard know that this experience is unlike any other. Being at Dillard has helped me to find my purpose, to show that I am ready to create the change I want to see in the world.

I think that Dillard is what you make of it. If you always find something to complain about, your not going to be happy. Every college has its pros and cons. The best thing about this campus is how politically involved we are. There is always an intellectual conversation.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time and talk to myself about college as a high school senior what I would tell myself is to achieve all that I want out of life. Go to college to get a better education so that I can support my family and be a good role model for my future children. No one in my family considered going to college so why don't I start the trend and maybe I can be a role model for my little brother so that maybe he will want to go to college and achieve what he wants to be. I want to start my own security business and in order to do that I need a college education because a high school diploma is not going to take me far in life. So why not start right after high school and be the best that I can be.
A person who is artsy, outgoing and social should attend Dillard because it is a school based around family. Everyone will speak to you, help you when you are down, perform with you and also help you study. A student attending Dillard should be prepared to break out of their shell.
My school is known for Liberal Arts which means that its students receive an education in any and everything. It doesn't matter if someone is a music major because they're going to learn as much science as the biology majors. Dillard prepares its students for the unexpected.
What i consider the best thing about my school is that it is very family oriented. Everyone who attends Dillard University feels very welcomed and at home. The campus is fairly small so that gives it a rather homey feel. I really enjoy attending a school where it makes me feel as though i am at a home away from home.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Dillard is very small, smaller than I wanted in a university, but it works. My school really attempts to take the students interest seriously. The traditions that Dillard was founded on is still being instilled today. The educators take our success seriously and present us with numerous opportunities to make she we get ahead in life.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Freshman week registration is the worst. If your not fully prepared then everything is hectic. Everything about that week is hectic. There's so much running around that you do that it becomes exhausting and irritating. Other than that, everything about the school is fine.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating part of my schooling is that I do not have a form of trasnportation and would like to have one so that I can have a way to explore the city more, i feel that it will help me understand my professors and the natives more as well as teach me a new city, because I was born and raised in Minnesota.
