What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Alexis

most popular: it all depends on the group of people you hang out with. If you liek fraternities, pike and phi psi are big ones, but it seems that only guys in pike like pike (besides for girls liking pike). and if you like sororities, then you can take the reputation of Coke head with kappa kappa gamma or complete slut with delta gamma. -im involved in the business fraternity and it's co-ed and really fun. we have just as much fun and partying as we do with professional things. -most students on my floor leave their doors open most of the time. -basketball games are the most popular and if they are a good team, then they are really crowded and exciting. -guest speakers are great! i have seen the dalai lama, katie couric, barak obama as well as many others. -certain people date and others are all about one night stands. -my closest friends actually live across the hall from me. -i generally dont go out on tuesdays because i have an early class on wednesday but i hear tuesdays are really fun! -people party on average about 3 nights a week. -fraternities (god forbid you call them frats) and sororities are definitely there if you want the greek life, but you dont have to join one. im not in one and very happy about it, but my best friends are all in fraternities. -last weekend: fraternity party, bar, beer pong in thurston. -umm..see a movie? or a show? on a sat. night not drinking. -off campus, you can eat, see movies, go to the eastern market, go to museums, go to the kennedy center, go to capitol hill, white house, etc...

Again, the most popular groupings would be in Greek life. I am involved in Greek life as well as the College Democrats. Some students leave their doors open and some don't, depending on which dorm and the personalities of the residents. Athletic events and theater are very popular, while guest speakers a little less so. Most of my friends are from my dorm, and if I'm up at 2am I'm probably hanging out with them. People generally party 3 of the 7 days a week. Last weekend I went to a Frat party. As a freshman, I don't do a whole lot off campus.

I am in Greek life. The greek community is very close knit and it makes it nice to see familiar faces around campus. If you are in greek life it seems like the whole school btu if you arent it probably doesnt matter. the social scene are a lot of clubs and bars. a lot of the social scenes have to do with drinking. the library is also pretty social haha.

Greek life is becoming increasingly popular on campus, which might seem strange for a school so urban in feeling. Being a member of a sorority is a great way for students to feel part of a smaller group within such a daunting, city-oriented campus. GW has great visitors from the political, international affairs and media fields, but the school does not well-publicize these oppportunities. Interested students must seek them out. Because GW is located in Washington, DC, the social scene is focused on the city. The bars, clubs and restaurants in Georgetown, Dupont and Adams Morgan are filled with GW students on the weekends and some Tuesdays. However, recently more have an effort has been made to keep the social scene on GW's campus with fraternity parties, etc.

When you are involved in greek life, it seems like a huge social seen. There are so many things to do any weekend being in a city. The going out social life involves going to clubs and bars. A fake id is crucial.

College Republicans and College Democrats are big on campus. IT depends on which dorm you are and and even which hall of the dorm, but in my experience, a lot of students leave their doors open and want to meet pepole. Atheletics aren't a huge deal, but basketball is pretty big on campus. There's always lots of theater going. GW has an amazing schedule for guest speakers. We have a unqiue opportunity in DC to have guest speakers and GW offers amazing opportunities to see some great thinkers, big names, and people who have done some amazing things. At 2am on a Tuesday, people in my dorm are usually settling down for the night or finishing up some homework. In my experience, a lot of students are involved in activites through the evening, come back to the dorms and relax and socialize for a little while, and then buckle down on homework. There's always a party going on somewhere because we live in the city and can head out to a club. Thursday, Friday and Sat are the big party nights and you can always find a dorm party, frat party, or club to hit up. Sororities and Fraternities are definitely a presence on campus but the majority of people aren't involved. There are usually good frat parties to hang out at and they do a lot of other cool things on campus, but you don't need to be involved to have a social life. I don't drink and so I was worried about coming to the "DC Party School" but there are plenty of people who don't drink but are still very social and fun. You can always go to a club or frat party and just not have a drink, if you like dancing. There's so much to do in the city that you'd have to try not to have something you could do. There is theater, great food, the monuments, movie theaters, and all kinds of things you can do without drinking and if you are looking, there are plenty of people to hang with without drinking as well.
