What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
What is most important in selecting a college is to figure out what the student's needs are. Do they like the city, or do they like the country? Would they mind having over 40,000 students attending, or would they like a small 1000 student population. It is important to know whether the school offers the programs that the student intends to major. Yeah, most of their friends may be attending a particular school, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the school has an entertainment major that the student always dreamed of. Being apart of a new school is practically adopting a new family. Selecting the school enables a student to make life long friends, business partners, or even lovers; it's essential to select the right school. Make sure the student gets involved and take the highest leadership role they can. I can guarantee that they will stand out in their job interviews when they let their future employer know about their trip to a foreign country or the community service project they led. College is the perfect place to stumble upon infinite opportunities.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
I love the layout of the university. All the academic buildings are in the same general area, and there are so many amenities. The gym is new and beautiful. The arena is great, and UCF is investing into so many programs. The library just got a makeover, and is looking good. Everyone is super friendly. UCF is my dream school and I am so thrilled to be a Knight!

The University offers so many different pathways to success, and one has to be ready to embrace new and innovative ways of learning. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Registering for classes is the most frustrating part of UCF. Most scholarships require at least 12 hours per semester and every semester I struggle trying to achieve that number while picking classes that pertain to my major. Registration is specific to your expected graduation date as well as you GPA, yet even with a relatively high GPA it seems futile to register for the classes you need. The pattern of registration has become a stressful month of trying to build a schedule with the scraps left over from seniors and constantly checking online for openings until a miracle comes along.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I honestly love UCF, even though ive only been attending the university for about 8 months. Ive become more social than i used to be in high school, during high school i was a very introverted kind of person. Once i began attending UCF i began making friends in my classes, my dorm, and around campus. Therefore, one of the reasons i love this university is that it allowed me to get over my social anxietys and just go out and do things.
The classes at UCF are more rigorous then any of the classes i took at a community college or in highschool, but putting in effort and studying you can acheive a high gpa and succeed in the university.
The dorms are nice there are different types of dorms all around campus; ones where you have your own room and bath, your own room and shared bath, or shared room and shared bath. My first semester here i shared a room and bath and ended up making a friend for life.

What are the academics like at your school?
The difficulty in academics depends on your major. Given the math department at UCF is not efficient (thank god im not a math major), one because all math classes below calculus meet for 50 minutes ONCE a week and then you have to go to the math mall (a room where you have to commit 3 hours a week doing math work). I believe the math mall is very inefficient because why not just use those three hours in a classroom setting taught by a professor.
Since i am a Biomedical Science major i am always studying and preparing myself to class but i still have time to enjoy myself as long as you set up times to study, do your work, and have fun you will enjoy your experience in college. I still workout, go out on the weekends, and hangout with friends. You just have to work hard and put in the effort to pass your classes.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I am a part of the Christian Club at the school, but I also have joined into a group that helps to put together events for my peers. So if there is a game or a health fair I am one of the ones to assist in making sure supplies and materials are available among many other things.
I'm not too sure about the dating scene, I try to stay away from that. We just had a Freshman pool party at the school. It was a great turn out. Lots of fun in the sun.
When I am off campus I go to the Gym, the Library and work part-time at the local Mall.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
They can be. There is a very large Greek population on campus and the sorority and fraternity members that I've met accurately fit the stereotype - airheaded, annoying, and obsessed with partying. But if you look in the right places, you can find a lot of students concerned with change. I am part of the progressive community on campus so I personally know these students. And of course, most students are focused on their education and doing well.
