As a first year undergraduate, I can say that so far I do have a positive leaning attitude towards FIU. To start off with the positives, Is the amount of retail food locations -- adding a diverse variety for students with allergies, sensory issues and such. As well as the stores available for students to print, tech repairs, clothing, stationary, personal furniture, and so on. The buffet there Is inclusive with 0 allergens and many vegan, gluten free options and the goods there are delicious. The negatives would be the lack of description or warning on hybrid classes, hybrid classes are labor heavy. I also feel like there should be more outside FIU events for those out of campus.

Florida International University (FIU) is a life changing experience, from the diversity of the students and faculty to the diversity of the community surrounding the campuses. The university provides all with a fighting chance to earn the education they set out to obtain. FIU has various clubs and sponsored activities that are safe and fun for all groups and varying backgrounds. The opportunities at FIU are endless and it aids in improving our ability to gain academic advancements and contribute to the feel of learning in a meaningful way.

It's a great school with really great professors and lots of opportunities for research experience and internships, as well. The campus has many places to study and study groups. The clubs have a lot of activities to offer, for example, the pre-vet club had lots of offers to volunteer and get shadowing hours.

Florida International University is like that cousin that’s super successful, but never engages in anything fun. It’s got a mix of everything, with a solid academic reputation and a location that’s pretty hard to beat, and on the bright side, you can hit the beach after class. Thankfully though, FIU is serious about education. The school offers a wide range of programs, from engineering to arts to business, and they’re not just about handing out diplomas, most professors want you to actually learn something. Plus, with its connections in Miami’s international business scene, FIU is like a networking goldmine. If you’re into making connections that could lead to some big opportunities, this is the place to be, just make sure to take advantage of your opportunities. The student body is as diverse as Miami itself and you'll make unforgettable friends if you get involved on-campus. And the food!!! Miami’s influence = great food. A big down side is that off campus housing is ridiculously expensive, so make sure to do your research extensively! Also, if you are one for parties and Greek life, it also might not be for you. Campus activity is relatively low since its a commuter school. In the end, FIU is a place where you can get a great education while enjoying the perks of living in one of the most exciting cities.

I think it is an excellent school with so much to offer. The school has plenty of opportunities for anything you are interested in, from academics to extracurricular activities. Whether you’re passionate about the arts, sciences, sports, or community service, there is something here for everyone. I believe Florida International University, is not one but the best University in the state of Florida. Fiu has a overall good environment to help students achieve their dreams and goals in life. Also, the student life is one of the best I have ever experienced, it makes you feel comfortable and want to interact with everyone around.

If you're like looking for a typical movie-like college experience do not come here; however, this is does not mean that FIU is worse than any other average university. Since the school has many commuters and are from the area, you will not find the same sense of community as you would find in a university where most people dorm and are just getting to know each other so they're frantically trying to find friends. People from out of town and people from the area will not interact that much, unless you're in the same extracurricular or happen to become friends in classes. It is not because people are unfriendly, it is just because many people choose to go directly home after classes or just stick to being friends with people they already know from highschool.

Florida International University was one of my safety net school and I am glad that I made it so. In my experience, the academic scene is very well thought out. The school mostly focuses on nursing, law, business, and engineering. So I thought that the other academic routes would be subpar but it was the opposite. Most of my professors have always challenged our intellect making us think outside the box and us the students would come up with solutions for real life situations. For that I’m grateful because it keeps me on my toes in real life situations at work. Overall, schooling at FIU is very good and I would recommend it to other people.

I believe that FIU is an awesome University in multiple ways. I believe that is inclusive, offers lots of opportunities, great academics, etc. The only thing I would say its that we are too many so you feel like just a number when you are not part of a sorority or something similar. overall, its a pretty great university.

I like the school scenery which really gives the impression that this school is located in Florida. Campus food is pretty good because they switch up what they serve and provide good customer service. Classes are not very difficult to grasp as teachers are often available even outside of class through email and in general, the people here are nice. However, I dislike one stop and think the school needs to do better with who they allow to help us students with things like FAFSA, and registration. Not all of the workers, but a few seem to just tell you whatever they need to to get you out of there face. There has been 3 instances where I was given the wrong from to fill out and had to go back to the office. I would be placed with someone new and they would inform me I completed the wrong form and this has even led me to losing housing because of a situation with my FAFSA where the lady made me fill out the wrong thing. By the time I went back to check the payment was due tommorrow and I found out she had actually gave me the wrong thing to fill out.

Florida International University is honestly the best place you can go to. I attended orientation this year and I love how the staff is so kind and helpful. The place feels so safe and it’s beautiful. There are so many resources that students have access to. I love how they truly care about you and you are able to reach your advisor easily.

Florida International University is a fine college. The people are nice and I like the professors so far, and there are plenty of activities to join like political or social clubs or student life events, but since it's a commuter college, on-campus life isn't like in other colleges where everyone lives there. That said, it's Miami, so you can find things to do anyway.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
The advise i would offer myself given the chance to go back in time, would problaby be to work for atleast a year and save up as much money as possible so that i could just focus on school. The transition to college life is a difficult one for most when it comes to money. Most parents cannot afford to pay for college, specially during the economic crisis the country is going through. I was able to manage going to school full time and working full time but only for a few months, then i had to change jobs once i had saved what i needed. So this will problaby be the best advice i would give myself if that golden opportunity ever presented itself.
My classmates are extremely diverse, social, friendly and approachable. They are usually helpful if you need any type of help with the coursework or with campus activities.

Uniqueness of diversity and cultural backgrounds allowing students to learn of different points of view in all aspects of daily life. It showed me that we learn more from our classmates than the actual faculty. It was definately an "eye opener" for many students who thought of the US as the only place worth knowing in the entire world. Indeed, the american dream is an excellent foundation, perhaps the best foundation that any other country in the world could offer, but it is our duty to care and explore the world we live and share with many other great countries.
The assistance when needed is always available. I have an excellent experience with my advisers.
I do not have an issue with any part of FIU. It is just right in size, I consider it to be a large campus, yet not too big.
People admire FIU, and do consider it to be a reputable facility.
I spend most of the time on my campus in the library, and in the gym. It is a very peaceful environment.
FIU is a college town. Very optimistic, endless activities going on at all times, driven by the students.

Class participation is very often, Sometimes depends on the teacher's style. However over all 1-10, I'd say 9
Students have many group projects, therefore outside of class there is a lot of brainstorming .
Students are competitive.
The most unique class I've taken was Statistics. Very interesting to have a chance to explore Excel. We also worked on the Rubik's cube. It was very interesting.
My major involves business administration, and International business. I am in a focused program that allows to to do a double major. I am going to also work towards an accounting major or masters degree.
Not very much time is spent with professors out of class.
The school's academic requirements are tough. It is a lot of material.
The education is actually geared toward getting a job and learning as well.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There are endless amounts of organizations, clubs, etc.
I am involved in Water for People. It is out of Colorado. We assist in raising awareness in bringing reliable aqueduct systems to third world countries.
Athletic events and guest speakers are very popular. There are various activities on a daily basis on campus.
My closest friends were met through mutual classes.
Fraternities and sororities are important, and do have weekly events promoting self advancement opportunities.
I attended a musical show at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
On a Saturday night catching up on homework or upcoming tests is always a good idea. Work around the house, help with the family, movies.....etc.
Seeking employment opportunities, relaxing, helping around at home. There is always something to get done.
I consider the diversity due to it's location, Miami, the best thing about my school. It is important and refreshing to interact with people of differnt cultures and ideologies. It broadens my horizons. There is always an activity for anyone at FIU and if there isn't, it is easy to start one. The diversity also, makes students curious about other cultures. FIU is like a mini-Miami and Miami has a lot to offer to the world, in terms of every disciplinet here is available at Florida International University.
It is best known for its research. It is also known for its schools like Business, Law, Science, etc. that are topping the list on the country, not only in rankings but also statistically to appeal to minority students, particularly Hispanic. It is known for being an affordable public university.
Florida International University has students who define the meaning of kind and sociable. A person who holds these characteristics, and who are is also open to diversity should attend Florida International University.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The only thing I can think of that is not-so-good at FIU is that there have been a few cases of misunderstandings and mistakes with certain departments, like Financial Aid
What kind of person should not attend this school?
This school is truely an INTERNATIONAL school and is has done a great job of admitting very diverse cultures into the school and because of that, if you are someone that is most comfortable in a school where the majority of the population is your race, you won't be comfortable here because it is an integrated school.
I decided to go tho FIU because it was close to home and affordable. Also they offer me an scholarship and the International Relations Program at FIU is one of the best.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
