I value my education at The U. It is an accredited program for the degree I am pursuing with many hands-on and real-world experiences outside the classroom. The professors are friendly, experienced, involved, and passionate about their individual specialties and the field of Counseling. I feel that I am valued as a student and individual in and out of the classroom. The individual track provided to graduate students is very helpful for working professionals like myself as it allows for flexibility. The tuition/credit cost is lower than most and financially feasible. I would highly recommend the university and my specific program for anyone interested in pursuing graduate-level education in counseling!

I love the University. However, some international students need better help to adjust to being away from home. Finance is another thing. There aren't many scholarships for students of minorities, especially for Pacific Islanders in the University. Overall, I would recommend the school to anyone wanting a small campus family with friendly neighbors and with people to help support you.

I LOVE this school. There are definitely pros and cons and the city of Scranton itself is a hit or miss, but I adore my professors and the courses they offer at the U. I never lived on campus so I cannot speak much for that aside from what I've heard, and off-campus housing definitely varies. Apartments downtown are gorgeous but very expensive compared to the neighborhoods directly next to campus.

I love this school! I actually came in as a transfer student during my freshman year of college. I originally attended a school in New York City; However, unfortunately, it was not the best fit for me. I was very excited about starting my application process to the University of Scranton. I was accepted for my spring semester, and I could honestly say that it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was very nervous coming in during the middle of the school year where everyone has already met their group of friends; However, the student body as well as faculty and staff made me very welcomed. I had a lot of support coming in as a transfer student, and I have been able to meet so many new people. I do not regret my decision one bit and I would recommend this school to anyone!

    The personal attention available to every student is the best thing about Scranton. Classrooms almost/possibly never exceed forty students, and therefore the professor is able to really get to know and give attention to every student outside the classroom if needed. The size also allows for every student to make last-minute appointments with advisors and other offices.

    If you are unmotivated, you should not attend the University of Scranton. If all you want to do is party, you should not attend the University of Scranton. If you do not believe in the Jesuit values that the University of Scranton holds, you should not go here. If you are not friendly, you should not attend the University of Scranton. If you are not willing to walk up and down the hills on a daily basis, you should not attend the University of Scranton. If you do not like weather changes especially the cold weather, do not go here.

    The University of Scranton is a liberal arts college that stresses the importance community- among students, faculty, and the surrounding city- and has a strong belief in these three components working together to create a quality education to prepare it's students for the "real world."

    I think the worst thing about my school is the location. Scranton, PA isn't that bad, but it could do more to accommodate college students, besides providing bars.

    There is an enormous amount of school pride when first entering the school. Great orientation programs that are very welcoming. Campus is located in a very old sector of Pennsylvania, making it rich in history.

  14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

    Scranton is truly like its own little town, the beautiful buildings, skyline and grounds make it feel like a utopia also known as, Scrantonia. You might not think that this is possible with only 5,000 students but Scranton is the perfect size, I know enough people to feel at home and don’t know too many people to feel like everyone is in my business. I am now a junior and I rarely need to leave campus. The food is fantastic, the gym is top notch and the college buildings encompass the best technologies and most educated professors. Scranton is a school on the rise. Constant construction is being done to make the school even more stellar. The interesting thing is that the campus is not messy at all! It's almost like a squad of elves is working to clean up every second. The cleaning staff is SO FRIENDLY and they are truly happy with their jobs and enjoy providing us with a clean living environment. When you come to visit Scranton I ASSURE you that you will feel welcomed and any staff member or student that you choose to converse with will be happy to talk to you. Scranton is a work hard play hard school for sure. I’ll be honest the classes are NOT easy, but that’s what you’re paying for! If you want to get a noteworthy education you have to work for it and at Scranton you will. However cutting loose on the weekends is not uncommon students here excel in their academics during the week and take a break on Friday and Saturday nights then hit the library on Sunday.

    You will have to work for your grades here, this isn’t a “joke school” professors here will not give you anything you dint earn, and that’s what you are paying for. You will have to know what you’re learning not just pretend that you’re following because that won’t work. You will spend your weekdays studying and doing hard work but can definitely find time for fun and a social life so long as you have a small ability to budget your time.

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

    As a Catholic Jesuit university, there can be a stereotype that all students at The University of Scranton are very religious or that they are all Catholic. While we do have Catholic students and there are many religious opportunities available for students to participate in, you do not have to be Catholic to come here! I do not have a religious affiliation and I have been able to thrive in the Jesuit community. It creates a warm and welcoming environment for all different types of students. Students are able to practice other faiths in the Scranton community and all are welcome to events offered on campus. I have participated in several retreats and I have really enjoyed the chance to explore my own spirituality.

  17. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

    There are so many..... Scranton is division 3 but sports teams take themselves pretty seriously and are competitive. Championship games are popular and a lot of students attend especially men and women’s basketball. There are a whole slew of club sports that anyone can get involved in and even if that is too much commitment there are intermural sports that are just for fun! There are workout classes taught by students such as Zumba, aerobics, yoga and kickboxing. The new gym is superb and the majority of Scranton students are in very good shape. In the freshman dorms students normally leave their doors open in an effort to meet new people. Freshman dorms split up males and females by floor and even in some buildings by sex. But sophomore and upperclassmen dorms are only divided by room. Sophomore dorms are quad style living situations and upperclassmen live in beautiful apartments. The dating scene at Scranton is there but not that big of a deal. There are no sororities or fraternities but there are sports houses where you might find yourself on the weekends. If you’re awake at 2am on a Tuesday and it’s not you or your friend’s birthday then you’re studying; sorry. There is plenty to do on a Saturday night if you choose not to drink. There is a movie theatre three blocks away, a mall and a ton of fun restaurants. Also the programming board at Scranton always hosts events on campus like game nights, movies and other fun events on the weekends.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible.
