What draws me to the Fashion Institute of Technology is that it combines creativity with professional preparation in a way that feels authentic. FIT is not merely about studying design—it’s about comprehending the fashion industry in its entirety, from branding to business to sustainability. I appreciate that the school places students in the middle of New York, where fashion is literally alive on every street corner. I’m interested in how hands-on the programs are and that so many students intern and work with their favorite brands eventually. And FIT's culture is what impresses me most—it's teeming with ambitious, innovative students who embrace their individuality and aren't afraid to express themselves. That's what inspires me. I want to be among individuals who perceive things differently, dress differently, and don't mind taking the road less traveled. In addition to that, the school's emphasis on professional growth, networking, and innovation creates an atmosphere that feels less like a place to fantasize about a future and more like where you build one.

The resources and opportunities provided by FIT are unmatched and essential for someone like me who lacks access to industry tools and connections in my local community. As I consider my future, I realize that pursuing my education at FIT will offer me the unique opportunity to grow professionally and socially. Living in a small town has provided me with a solid foundation, but has limited my exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences. At FIT, I will be surrounded by individuals who share my passion, allowing me to collaborate and learn from peers who inspire me. Moreover, being in such a creative hub will allow me to explore and embrace my true identity. I am excited about the possibility of discovering new interests and honing my skills in an environment that champions creativity and innovation. FIT represents a transformative chapter where I can thrive, explore, and live authentically.

FIT is a wonderful college that offers many opportunities to those who are interested in pursuing art. While it is primarily a fashion school, other programs like Fine Arts, Illustration, and Photography have well-qualified professors experienced in their respective fields. That being said, some aspects like their career center leave a lot to be desired for non-fashion students. As an Illustration major, there is practically nothing for me. Despite this grievance, the professors understand the competitiveness of the field and wish to assist students in any way they can. Being in the heart of Chelsea, there are many areas to hang out between classes as Ktown and the Highline are a few blocks away.

Seems like a good school but only visited for one day. The students seemed busy and we're talking about finals. Has a very good reputation in the Fashion industry. Well known and considered one of the top fashion schools in the world. buildings looked old and outdated

Going into my second year, I’ve experienced the school and the environment enough to know the energy will remain pretty similar throughout my education. The social aspect is lacking greatly due to its location (NYC) and the overall driven, plastic, “influencer” vibe of the people. Making connections can be hard and I often find myself more intrigued with teachers rather than my peers. This isn’t to say finding people is impossible, it’s just more difficult without having a sense of community or campus. I am enjoying my time and education at the school. I find that the professors I have had so far are well equipped and experienced in the field, making me more confident in my skills and career path. I look forward to my years to come.

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is not a traditional college. The majority of students do not partake in Greek life or sports, however that is not our main focus. At FIT, students are passionate about the arts, design, and business. We pour our hearts into creativity and communicating our unique identities through fashion and apparel. Although the campus itself is small, being located in the metropolis of New York City exposes students to diversity and amazing opportunities. Professors have immaculate industry experience and help students network for jobs after graduation. Classes are specifically tailored for each major in order to prepare students for their future careers. The Fashion Institute of Technology does not fail to provide its students with many resources and fun, engaging events. The amount of aid that FIT provides to help students advance in their respective fields in unparalleled

F.I.T was, and still is my dream school. The opportunities at the school are endless and being located in the middle of New York City makes it feel like the world is in the palm of your hand. The teachers are all extremely experienced and although it is far from your average college experience, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

It's a very liberal and very artistic community. I'm an illustration major (The drop down menu doesn't include my major, so I put graphic design). As much as I'm artistically nurtured at FIT, the general education classes are also incredibly helpful. The professors are often in the field as well, and are always willing to help out the students. We're a very fashionable bunch, and students are all about support and community with one another. If there's a problem, we all support each other to find a solution that will benefit us all. My only gripe would be that the school doesn't always accommodate students with how little time they have for each assignment. Most classes are three hours long, and with commuter students, this leaves very little hours in the day to complete all assignments necessary. But with a few visits to the academic counselor, these problems can be easily dealt with.

They do not have any means for caring about the student life, housing, or students in general. That became very evident with the coronavirus situation. Dorming had to be the dirtiest experience of my life, there was a roach infestation that took weeks for maintenance to take care of. Academics are stellar though.

I love my school but there are some issues with recent budget cuts/merging of departments. This affects us students by having to pay more in tuition/fees and less quality working equipment for our classrooms. As a Fashion Design student expect to pay for all of your supplies including parts for the sewing machines (which used to be provide but because of budget cuts are no longer provided for us). Besides that I love FIT!

I really like FIT. It's a little old and could definitley use some updating, but overall it's a great experience and the school has a lot of opportunities and connections. Kaufman Hall needs to be updated, especially the gym. The C building also needs a lot of updating. But honestly I'm not there for the decor of the school, I'm here to be around creative, passionate individuals, and that's exactly what I've got.

The pros of attending FIT are (1) reasonably priced compared to school of similar reputation, (2) its location at the center of NYC fashion hub, (3) faculty's expertise, experience, and connections. Some negatives I can name are: (1) its focus on industry and consumer demands, though realistic, can sometimes stifle creativity, (2) limited funding and slow to change/update as it is a state school (though efforts have been made in recent years). Overall, I respect the students' drive and hustle - nobody is here to slack, and you will feel the pull. "FIT is what you make of it" said my ex-creative director and FIT alum; it is up to the student to make the most out their time and money spent here. You come with the creativity and vision, and FIT will teach the "how".

It's wonderful and full of energy. Very vibrant. Nobody really gets in fights and everybody is welcomed. Events are always hosted and end up good for the students and the school at the end. I believe the students would fight for this school no matter what

I really enjoy the environment and small class sizes. I like how friendly most people are and how easy it is to move around campus. It is somewhat affordable and I think the curriculums are very well set up. No class is completely useless which I enjoy.
