Plan to live on campus. If not, spend as much time as you can on campus. This school is NOT for commuters. If you allow yourself to join in on the campus activities you will have the time of your life.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The tuition for the school is the only real complaint I have about the school; though they are truly generous with merit scholarships, the price of a good education is still enough to make some students to have to transfer out.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about Loyola is the diversity and understanding. Of course there is always going to be a few ignorant people, but one learns a lot about the other people that attend Loyola. One learns a lot about other cultures and other people's way of living, and by learning, stereotypes are broken.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known someone in the area to show me a job; jobs on campus don't really pay a lot of money and it's somewhat expensive in the city.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
There is not a HUGE community based aroung the universities in New Orleans. To eat fast food, go shopping, see a movie, or go out, it usually involves a car trip or a somewhat lenghty walk.

I dont really brag about much but being able to say i attend Loyola University makes me feel proud since it is such a high regarded school acidemically .

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
Loyola University is the only Jesuit University with a school of music. Within our unique music school we have the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, which is well known to musicians throughout the United States. The Thelonious Monk Institute is perhaps the most prestigious jazz oriented program in New Orleans, a city known for its jazz music heritage. Another thing Loyola is known for is its volunteer programs, most specifically LUCAP, which have served the New Orleans area since the 1970s.

What are the academics like at your school?
The average student-to-faculty ratio at Loyola is 11:1 with class sizes of 22 (typically) so the students and teachers get to know each other. Plus, there are over 300 full-time faculty and of the 91{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} have a terminal degree -- so the quality of the education is top-notch.
Loyola also brings in guest speakers regularly, so there is no shortage of learning outside the classroom.
Loyola has an end goal for students, it isn't just learning for the sake of learning. The average class load is anywhere from 12-20 hours so there is time and plenty of opportunity for off-campus internships.
Loyola has a career services center that works closely with students to help with job placement. Every year there are over 150 professional businesses and/or grad schools that come on campus to do interviews. In recent years Loyola had graduates who were hired by ABC News, Apple, the LA Times, The Washington Post and Shell Oil Company.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Loyola offers over 100 student organizations to get involved in, including: greek life (6 fraternities, 10 sororities), athletics, student publications, service groups, performing arts and more! . Plus, with Loyola being located in New Orleans there is always something to do at any time, day or night.
Loyola has 9 Varsity Sports and is in Division I (NAIA). Athletics is pretty big with just under 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of both men and women participating in some kind of athletics. Plus, there are performing arts performances and tons more to do on campus.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Loyola University is located in Uptown New Orleans right on St. Charles Avenue. You couldn't find a more perfect college town than New Orleans. The campus size is pretty big and spans a few blocks in uptown N.O. but it's completely walk-able. Many students walk or ride bikes to and from classes.
