The secrets to college success are: time management, extra curricular activities, and organizational skills. I wish I had taught myself how to manage my time correctly before my first semester of college. If I would have done so, I would have done more, studied more, and possibly been employed. A student can have an easy flowing semester if he doesn’t waste time watching TV or spending too much time socializing. Extra curricular activities are essential for every college student. They help us get involved with the campus, other students, and useful resources. I didn’t join a community until my second year of college; it was then when I realized that my community was helping me become a better person. The University Catholic Community (UCC) helped me maintain my faith. The UCC has also kept me motivated in school, while leading me through the right path. Organizational skills are indispensable as well. A student has to be organized in order to remember to do homework, study for quizzes, and fulfill their responsibilities. If a student isn’t organized, then important documents could get lost. For Students to be successful, they should have these three necessary skills in mind.

Your guidance counsellor pays particular attention to you in high school to help you graduate, but you must be your own guidance counsellor in college. Only you can help yourself get where you would like to be. You must make your own decisions and be confident in them. Being proud of the person you are growing to be will motivate you to do well in school. A university will teach you how to communicate with a different type of people than what you were brought up around. You will learn how to manage your responsibilities and manage your time to take care of all of your obligations, and you will slowly realize you're becoming more and more like your mother and father. But don't be scared, this is just growing up.

I would tell my self not to worry. Yes, Everyone says college is tough and you probably will fail before you get your first A, but just put that all aside. College is only tough if you believe and make it tough. If you read your books, attend your classes and visit your professor in his/ her office hours you'll do just fine. So don't sweat it just get yourself prepared for sucess.

I would advice myself to study hard not just for a grade but for knowlegde, set up a concrete schedule for study, have to have a responsibility for everything that I do. I would tell myself to cultivate a strong knowlegde in order to be ready for college life. I would tell myself do not be procrastinated because I have to be different with others, I need to have a strong ethic.

If I could go back in time and share advice with myself in high school. I would emphasis these two things. To begin with get involved. In college get involved with sororities, sports, church, clubs, music programs, and organizations. This will help you to stay out of trouble and keep you busy doing positive activities and meeting positive people. It will also help you to find interests that can last your whole life. The second piece of advice would be to study hard and do it all now. I have continued to go to school intermittently for 8 years. Finally finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2011. I now have been accepted in to a selective Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. I now am married, have 2 young children, and work full time. I would advise my younger self to finish it all in one foul swoop, while you are young, single, and have parental support. I always wanted to be a doctor, but because of life circumstances and life choices I did not pursue medical school. I would advise to go for it, become a doctor. Strive to succeed in your career and in life above all.

Fisrt of all Beca, take a deep breath. Ok listen girl, I know you're scared about your Medical School dreams, tuition, the MCAT and leaving your 105 pairs of shoes behind when you move to the dorms. But dont let all that scare you, most of all, dont cower into the Nursing program! It will only put you a year behind (or give you a degree that you wouldn't really use because lets face it, you'd go right back into MedSchool). Remember what your innermost dream is, and remember that you wont be happy being anything other than Dr. Nunez - Cardiology Specialist. Now for tuition, Im letting you know RIGHT NOW, its gonna be tough. Is your refund going to cover you? NO. And I know what you're thinking: At least I'll have my job right? NOPE! After classes, studying, volunteering, MCAT courses and catching your breath, there's 8hrs left - no wait, that's sleep time... nevermind. So what's left? Scholarships! Yes, apply to every single one, even the essay ones and give them everything you've got! Don't be scared to try, the worst they can say is no.

I wish i could push myself more to get out of high school quicker.

Go to school. Do not allow others to influence you and say that it is not worth it, that you should pursue simplier goals. The world is an ever changing place and we must grow with it in order to thrive. In order to grow with the world, you must have the education and always want to move forward. That forward movement starts with your choice to go on to further your education. I know it is not mandatory, Lora, but you should want to be the best Lora you can be. You are smart and vivacious yet others are telling you that you are all that you need to be. That is not true. Let the voices on the outside disappear, look into your heart and listen to your dreams and goals and move towards them. Let your inner voice be louder than those other voices so you can finally be able to love yourself first and put yourself first in this world so that you can be all that you were created to be.

I had a plan. I was going to work and pay my own way through college as quickly as possible so I could see the world. My plan worked. I completed an Associates degree without any assistance. I traveled to several countries in South America, volunteered in South Africa, lived in Oregon, met the love of my life, gave birth to the light of my life. Eleven years after high school, and I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. It isn’t that I did not have ambition. I just didn’t have anyone rooting me on. A four year university seemed daunting. If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to dream bigger. There are so many things offered at a university to help the transition not only easier but fun. There are clubs, community projects, study groups, sports, campus events. You are not alone. While I might not be able to go back in time to give myself this advice, I can pass it onto my son. Through my actions, he can know what is possible and be prepared for the wonderful world ahead.
