I spent 3 years at the University of North Florida. Those three years undeniably helped shape me into the person I am today.
There is no such thing as a perfect place, and Jacksonville, the city that hosts the University, is a clear example.
You can still see the remnants of a segregated past, constant reminders of the inequality that past Americans experienced. And yet, the people persist, looking to create new and inviting experiences that welcome all. Wether you want to go surf by the Jacksonville beach pier, fish near the Navy base, kayak down the St. Johns river, or even spend time in the dense, and misty woods, the University of North Florida provides the tools needed for these adventures.
Even though the city itself might still be recovering from its dark American past, the University stands as a guiding beacon of education, acceptance, development, and as a reminder that we can do better, that we MUST be better.

University of North Florida has amazing programs. I am transferring to another institution due to my own personal circumstances and relocating but I would recommend this to anyone searching for universities. They have amazing access to on campus health care, including therapists and primaries. They also do monthly events, if not more often, including art walks, concerts and career fairs. I played lacrosse here and it was a very fun experience with motivated individuals.

The University of North Florida has many facilities and opportunities for growth. I'm interested in trying out their Thrive program, which can help me get used to living independently and gaining the confidence I need for my future. I am pretty nervous about the road ahead, but I must take that big step and bring an open mind.

I think overall University of North Florida is an okay school. If you are there to party, get drunk and just have a good time...perhaps this isn't the college for you. Honestly, you could probably do a lot of that without spending thousands of dollars on tuition, room and board. Just know someone who knows someone going to the party. But, if you actually want to earn a degree, Make sure you get an amazing advisor, and don't hold off on meeting with them. The class scheduling process is a key factor for how long your college experience is. Housing is okay. Dorm life is what you make of it. So are EC activities and courseloads.

University of North Florida is a really good school. UNF is known for its strong academic programs and dedicated faculty who are experts in their fields. The university also offers wide range of majors and courses, allowing students to pursue and their passions and interests. School is all about the environment so the campus itself is very beautiful, with a serene lake, nature trails, and modern facilities.

I love it, I love how open of a school UNF is. The campus definitely serves a good balance of student life and outside of student life. It offers so many types of learning environments as well so that everybody can learn in an efficient way. They also offer smaller class sizes, individualized attention, and studying abroad.

It is in a great city and everyone I met was very friendly. It was the right choice for me because of their out of state waiver. I like the opportunity that this college has put in front of me and I am excited to attend. Some interesting facts is they have a great ASL program and they have a swamp on campus. Personally, before becoming a student, I have already gained access to their mywings which shows me all the different clubs I can join and also allows me to receive notifications about what is happening on campus.

Love this small town feel of a college. Was a student athlete and enjoyed my time here very much. Reminded me of home (Ohio), but still gave me big city feels! Class sizes were reasonable and the sports were great, although they do not have a football team. The fitness facility is amazing and the life on campus has grown immensely!

I am a high school student but I visited the campus and I overall loved it. It was a great experience and it also became the school that I am choosing to go to. I love the people, the campus and the academics. I would recommend anyone to enroll here.

I love UNF so far. It's very exciting to be here. There are many opportunities for students and there professors are always there to help you. You just have to make sure also, that you put in the work. The food is okay, it could be better (but that's just my opinion).

good college, needs to put a lot of efforts to get good grades. professors are overall good and helpful most of the times, life inside the campus is fun and you can make a lot of friends out there. classes sizes are good comparing with students. other students are very helpful and usually make group study.

The University of North Florida is a college with a campus that's bigger than you might expect, but still manageable as it won't take long for you to get between classes. The professors are nice and understanding, and you'll be able to make lots of friends here with the events on campus, as well as the game room that houses many consoles, all while getting a good education from amazing professors.

My overall opinion of University of North Florida is that it is a pretty well rounded and diverse school. It is always up to date with the latest news. The environment with student to teacher ratio is excellent. It is very easy to become a part of something, there is always something to keep you busy and active within the school. Regarding dorms and dining options there are a variety of dorms to chose from based off of preferences, as well as many restaurant options including a buffet with a wide range of food options.

I think the school is very average compared to other schools. It seems like the president is ruining student life and activity. The campus itself is beautiful but that doesn’t mean the faculty is. OneStop is a constant headache and professors can be hard to reach or hard to personally connect with. If student life had more activities through Greek or even more encouraged for fun activities than the school could have a lot more upside.

The class sizes make it a great learning environment for students and helps to make getting in contact with professors a lot easier. Would recommend, much to do around campus(fitness classes, various clubs, sports, etc.) as well, fantastic library-my favorite part of the campus. Offers unique courses as well.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Just take a deep breath, work hard and take all you classes seriously, don't slack off!
The absoulte best thing about UNF is the small class size. Its great to know that teachers ususally do learn your name and then will also recognize you outside of class. Even for the few classes that are lecture halls, they also include a once a week class meeting that is a "break-out" from the regular class size. In these sessions either the professor or a TA will further explain the weeks material in the smaller setting so questions can be answered better. Its a great feeling to know people are aware of your presence.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I would mostly brag about the creativitly and soclusion of my school to my friends. I beleive that U.N.F. is one of a kind to have some many great opportunities for me. I brag to my friends mostly about the nature preserve that my school is located on and the special connection I am able to make with my professors.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
This school is very laid back, but very into studying and doing well. Anyone who is just out of high school that is not willing to open up a book and do some serious studying, I wouldn't recommend applying for this University. A more affordable, community college would probably be your best bet if your not serious about school.
People with open minds and a willingness to work hard and learn should attend this school. Though not the most renowned school in the country, the University of North Florida challenges its studets in both the academic setting as well as in students' perceptions on real life. People often come away from this school getting much more from their experiences than they thought they would upon entering.

The fact that University of North Florida is a small school is what makes it more unique than other schools I considered. Even though the University of North Florida has grown, in size and accomplishments, it has retained its most unique feature. UNF has small classrooms with twenty or so students per professor, and a one on one personal learning experience. This kind of learning environment is what distinguishes UNF from any other university, and explains why UNF attracts students from more than ninety foreign countries.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype at UNF is that fraternity or sorority is the only way to get involved and have fun. I personally am not involved. I dont think I should have to pay in order to get "friends" and be a part of school. I get involved in clubs and activities on campus in order to get what i want/need out of college. I dont believe this to be accurate because I have plenty of friends and am able to enjoy college without any rules.
My overall opinion of this school is that it's not very well known but the reason being is because it's so new. It's very modernized and the campus is nice. The professors are also very friendly and helpful. If you like the more one on one time and smaller classes then this would be perfect for you.
The professors usually tend to learn names and create relationships with students, they are very kind, helpful, and interesting people. Most students study 3 hours for every hour they spend in a class. Class participation is very common and encouraged. A lot of the time the professor will make class participation part of your overall grade. The education at UNF is definitely geared toward getting a job once you finish.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The most popular student activities/ groups are of course the fraternities and sororities; due to the fact that our campus is pretty small it takes up more then half of the student population. Also, student government is very active. There are lots of events held on campus including free food, movie nights, comedy shows, music events and something called market days, where people set up tents and sell things.
As a student focused on academics, UNF was very appealing to me because I was able to begin school in the summer term following my graduation from high school.
When leaving campus, you see lots of trees and preserves. The area surrounding is well-kept and natural. Not even one minute out, and you have the town center, the most attractive outdoor mall in Jacksonville in my opinion. Then on the other side, there are apartments and nice living surrounding campus. Butler and 9A highway ramps are located all around campus.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
79% of students attending University of North Florida receive some sort of financial aid.
